I have been doing some tests with the new hair shader3, but I am not having much luck in terms of spec control for the primary spec.
All spec controls seem to be very touchy in terms of spec amount and color. When I bring up the primary spec it seems to reflect a tremendous amount of the environment causing me to keep the spec level very low and add a V-Ray physical sun to kick the highlights without washing the hair with reflection. I have a domelight and physical camera using physical camera to attenuate the HDR.
I was hoping you could give some tips for controlling the shader if possible. Here is a quick test render.
