  • new shave and render layers

    Hello,

I have version 7.0v21 Shave installed with the nightly build of Vray 2.25.01 and I can’t get render layers to work. Has anyone else had success with this?

    I’m following these step:

Create two objects, call them ‘one’ and ‘two’. Apply basic Shave and Haircut hair to each.

Select ‘one’ plus the assigned shaveHair node and it’s shavedisplay and choose Create Layer from Selected under the render tab

Now select ‘two’ plus the assigned shaveHair node and it’s shavedisplay and choose Create Layer from Selected under the render tab

Select the first shaveHair node and turn OFF Override Geom Shader. Repeat for the second shaveHair node.

In the shave globals can you make sure Hair primitives is set.

Select the first layer and render in Vray. Both hair group are visible. It works when rendered in MR.?

    Cheers
    Richard

I think the problem is that there is a bug in shave now, which does not support single material to be assigned to two different shave nodes. It should work if you have a material assigned per node. So each node should have its own non instanced material.

Double checked that and it's not that. It happens if your either sharing material or if the all shaves nodes have their own material.

Ah ok, I see. I think shave and vray do not respect default visibility of fur. You will have to layer override "active" option for the hair you do not want to see on the layer.

Nice one. That does the trick.

          Thank Dmitry!

Great, what I would do is set the default state as off for all active furs on master layer, and then turn them on for each layer you assign fur to...that way you don't have to fight with the unwanted furs showing up in various layers. I've also posted this as a request to Joe on his support forum.
