  • Randomize hue/sat/val of texture per element

    Heya

Has any1 figured out how to randomize texture of for example leafs on tree to have slight color variation? Just like that cool script can do for max http://www.cg-source.com/uniquematerialids.php... just trying to import my max tress and make them look good somehow...

My DeeX VRay ARsenal can do this, i will post a video to night.
But you can do this manually with user attr and python script.

I'm looking over screenshots on ur page put cant find anything that would show me what control I have over it. Or am I looking at it and not realizing?

It is finished, but i have to update the pages and upload the update.

To confirm : each leaf is a separate mesh ?
If yes, it is exactly that you want.

You can try with the free trial. I will tell you here when i have uploaded the updated tool (today or tomorrow)

Nope they all are 1 mesh- all leafs. But I guess I can separate them and then convert it to proxy/bounding box.

The tool does variation for separate meshs...
It will not work if you have 1 proxy in final.

I think you can try to use UV to add randomization.
            Like this : http://www.djx.com.au/blog/2012/07/2...nd-does-grass/

Maya can't add ID on faces like 3dsmax (i have to check).

Yea could try that but not sure. So far I'm trying to separate the tree leafs and its taking ages in maya. Maybe max will be faster. Either way I see doing viz in maya a big headache

Ok so something I didnt expect to cause as much of a problem as it does now. When I select leafs and click to separate them in maya it takes hours to separate them. Well it did not even finish yet so that's unusable approach. Is there another way to do it? Neither max nor maya can do it.

                Thanks, bye.

Try the UV approach with this link : http://www.djx.com.au/blog/2012/07/2...nd-does-grass/
(you create another uv set for randomization)

Or, you can mix in your shading network a 3dTexture to do some variations.

Djx dont work either. Hangs for ever. I'm going to be cursing forever the day I moved to Maya from max! Piece of crap software wrrr. I'll go with the 3d texture. It seems like the only option at this moment. Thanks for suggestion !

                    Thanks, bye.

Just curious why did you make a choice to switch to maya?

As to your problem, can you not just select certain leafs and offset them to another tile? do that for example 4-6 tiles and you should have enough variation.

Maya is pretty unusable with the tree I have so that is a nightmare to do. I ended up using 3d projection and blend in some colors - worked pretty well.

I moved to maya because I got a job that was in maya environment so I moved - I like to learn Now I dont like to work in either of the softwares! Max lack so many features from maya and vice versa ehhh GJ autodesk!

Bigger mistake I did I cross moved my vray max license to maya. I should have bought another one ehhh

I agree that some really simple and fundamental tools from max are just absent in maya and the other way around. This really ticks me off, something that takes 5 minutes in one software takes an hour in another. I never really landed on one software, though my output software is maya, strictly because it has referencing and render layers. Max took too long to get there, and even now I'm not sure what state sets have to offer (or whatever they are called).

In regards to your tree, it could be some bad geo in it that's cause the hogging and stability issues? Max has never been fast for me with uv's, maya is marginally better. I wonder how program like modo would handle it, something that's designed for things like that.

                            I have created a preview video : https://vimeo.com/76378562
But, like i said, it is "by object". Maya haven't "elements" or "face id" like 3dsmax.
                            Hope you like.

To Vlado : perhaps the possibility to add ID to a set (and add objects or faces in this set).
