  • Max/Vray to Maya/vray in a few clicls is no more a dream ! it's called MaxtoVray !

    Hi,

Just bought MaxtoVray a few days ago and ... Amazing ! it works very very well,

I even converted Max/corona to max/vray (with UMC for mtl and MultyConvertor for the lights) and then to Maya/vray with Max2Vray and I just had to deal with some rare problems with blend and multi-sub mtl that UMC failled onto.

But with native Max/Vray scene the result in Maya doesn't need many adjustments to render (in fact none in most cases)
As I work every days with Max 3D bank objects and scenes mostly prepared for Vray, it's a hudge time-saver , and time is precious !

So I'm not endorsed with these guys but they reeeeaally deserve to be known by MayaGuysWhoAreFedUpWithMaxToVrayHandConversionOfHe llFromDeath ....

      Hi Lepixel,

I'm really glad to hear that this one works well.
I've started learning MEL-Scripting 2 year ago, to be able to automate this stuff.
I got a long way, but I was never really able to completely automate it.
(i have absolutely no experience in Max Script, And i was not planning of learning it, only for converting Vray stuff to maya)

So i'm really glad to hear and see that someone that actually has some real programming skills, did it the right way.

I just bought a license for MaxtoMaya a minute ago, because of your optimistic "feedback".
I've also tried to contact the guy who created it.But he doesn't reply to questions asked via his contact form.
But if you say that it works really well, then $29 dollars is not worth another headace hahah :-p

// I do have a question for Vlado:
If you have a license for Vray for Maya, and you only want to convert a 3dsmax Vray model to Maya.
Would a demo version of vray for 3dsmax be enough. Even after a month? Or do you need to have
a Vray license for 3dsmax and one for maya? Because I don't really need to render anything in 3DSmax.
I only want to send it to Maya so that i can render it there with my Vray for maya license.

If I need a extra / other license; How much would it cost to get my Maya Vray license working in 3DsMax?
Do I need to buy a full license or is there like a upgrade path? I saw something about crossgrading, but
this means that i'm losing the ability of using it in maya right?

Yeah, I bought this too. Haven't tested it yet though, just took advantage of the sale they have.

I am curious about this too. Does anyone know how does work if one only wants to convert scenes from Max to Maya (no intention to render in Max at all)?
          always curious...

Yes, in the past this has worked for me.

3DS just needs to know what vray nodes are, you aren't producing any renders wiht it so installing the demo will work fine.

              correct.
The demo limitations have nothing to do with scene conversion.

                  Hi,
I'm using the Vray demo in Max, seems to be enough for Max2Maya.

                  Cheers.

                    Hi,
After Two intensive weeks of max to maya conversions, there is a few things to keep in mind, ... ungroup some objects, split some complex mat BEFORE conversion, sometimes have to try between the "Default" "Accuracy" "compatibility" modes to get corrects conversions. You'll have to relink some textures to chanels like illum. but it's no big deal ...

But I can say that I've won a lot of time, really !
and each time I'had to communicate with these guys, answer has always been fast (even on weekend time).

Now, it's time to mix and render all these conversions, bye !

Hi you guys, as i stated earlier in this topic, I also bought the plug-in. And i wanted to share my test-results with you guys.

                              The good thing:

Transferring a model from Max to Maya goes really fast.
But if you want the geometry to come over correctly set the following:

                              1. In the FBX Export: Automaticly set the "Preserve Edge Orientation" to off.
                              2. And Add a "Edit Poly modifier" to all meshes.

If you do this, all models send to Maya are coming over, exactly as they are in Max. Nice Quads.

But for the actual shading networks, it's really limited : Fall-off, Mix, nodes etc not coming over)

But the worst thing is that alot of attributes are not coming over, It's even worse then the Chaos Group - Vray Material Importer. (that skips about 8/10 attributes)

What I did, is create a Vray Material in Max and set all it's values to 0,66 or 666 or 0,6. Then transfer it with MaxToMaya. So it's clear what attributes get transfererend and which ones are not.

for the Standard Vray Material, atleast these are not being transfered. So you will not get a correct result:

                              - Diffuse Roughness
                              - Self Illumination
                              - Subdivs
                              - Brdf Type <--
                              - Reflection Amount
                              - Highlight Gloss <--
                              - Reflection Subdivs
                              - Fresnel IOR <--
                              - Affect Channels
                              - Anisotropy
                              - Anisotropy UV Coords
                              - Anisotropy Rotation
                              - Max depth
                              - Reflection Exit Color
                              - Dim Distance
                              - Affect Channels
                              - Refraction IOR <--
                              - Fog Color <--
                              - Fog Multiplier <--
                              - Fog Bias
                              - Max Depth (refraction)

So if you are looking for a solution to quickly transfer a max file to maya, with some basic parameters, this plugin will work great.
If you are looking for a solution that exactly transfers the vrayMaterial from 3DsMax to Maya. it's not so great.

I wanted to add, that I contacted the creator and he replied pretty quickly, He is going to try and see if he can fix it.
