  • [Maya/Vray] - Holdout Render State setup?

    Maya 2017
    Vray 3.3
    Windows

I've always used a Vray Object Property to turn my holdout geo to a matte object. Looking at the default Maya Render Stats I see that there is a dedicated holdout attribute (shown in render stats and attribute spreadsheet).

When holdout is enabled I see no change to my render although the viewport 2.0 in Maya previews correctly (see through the object to the background as if it were a matte object.

Is there a way with Maya/Vray to use this holdout attribute as opposed to creating a vray object properties to enable a holdout of specified geometry?

    Thank you for any information,

I don't think we support that option. The viewport preview is something that Maya does on its own when this is enabled and it won't be rendered with V-Ray.

Thank you for the information. Is there anyway to achieve a Holdout object in Vray without Vray Object Properties or Material Wrapper, material? Or are those two the only way?

Trying to figure out how to do this through attributes to keep a clean scene without extra DAG objects or material overrides.

      Best,

Those are the only ways we provide. The object properties is a set, actually, and you can put as many objects in one of those as you like.

Yeah. VOP will do fine, I was just trying to figure out other options. Everything is cool as a cucumber. Thanks for the help.
