  • Normal maps dont work with UVWRandomiser

    Hi Devs,

Much like the issue with vray triplaner and normal maps documented here

    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...al-map-problem

three is a similar issue with UVWrandomiser and normal maps. See attachment. the random rotation of the normal map effects the position of the highlight incorrectly

Click image for larger version Name:	UVW issue.jpg Views:	0 Size:	157.6 KB ID:	1119450

Maybe its a miss use of normal maps or the overall normal map implimentation from Vray can be improved

Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, scene attached for your conveinance

    thanks

    matt

          HI Aleksander

Im quite surprised that this issue is still present almost 4 years later. Chaos managed to find a solution with vray triplaner and nomal maps incorectly displaying once vlado got involved. Cant someone apply that logic in this case?

Link to vray tri planar and normal map issue here that was finally resolved

          https://forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray...-problem/page2

          thanks

            Hey Aleksander,

A little further investigation and its my specific setup that is breaking the random orientation of normals maps dervied from teh uvw randomiser node. It works fine if i just plug the normal map directly into the bump slot of the shader. However im using a vray layered texture to blend a couple of maps this breaks the random orientation of the normal map generated by random rotation on the uvw randomiser. this is the same/similar behavour that was being exhibited prior to the previous fix

            cheers

            matt

I've stopped using normal maps with randomizer because of this reason. so a fix would be very welcomed

The issue is caused by the "Stochastic Tiling" option, which does not seem to work correctly when randomizing Normals maps. It seems there has been some work done about the matter, but indeed it does not seem fixed. I'll talk to the devs to reopen the issue. Thanks for the report.

                  H Aleksander

The issue seems to be fixed when i render the test scene in my orignial post which is great, however if i route that file texture node via a vray layered texture then it breaks again

                  thats all

                  thanks

I'm getting the exact opposite results - it works fine when routed through a VRay Layered Tex, but not by its own (tested with V-Ray 7). Which version do you have installed?

Which update? Also, are you testing on the attached scene or another one? (I am testing on the attached one)

Just so you know, I have reopened the issue for dev investigation (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-10551). I have also pinged the dev responsible. I'll write again when there is movement on the case.

EDIT: Do send your scene. I want to double-check we experience the same output between rendering the file directly and the file routed through a Layered Tex.
