Then if you create a local-override and replace reflection material with a pure black material you will have the same behavior as with the dome-light. With this method you won't have to override every single material, only sphere-material should be overwritten.

Thanks for this. This brings up a feature request:
It would be awesome if there was a vray infininitly-distant sphere geo, similar to the vray plane.

Or just create a big sphere, set pri vis off cast/recieve shadow off and apply vraylightmrl with texture in it.

I'm not sure but wsnt that explained early in topic?
As I explained earlier, both of these approaches do not work because the produce errors in comp. You can see an illustration of the problem in post #6 of this thread. The dome light approach solves this, as does the approach Svetlozar outlined using a sphere with a refraction override in post #7.

In post 6 you mean that texture behind sphere? I assumed that it was wrongly put texture in to ur background slot. Keep background slot empty/black and it should work no?

Oh nvm scratch that I'm wrong.

So basically you want reflections/refractions but you dont want to see throught the glass the ibl texture right? I think I had a good solution for it b4 leme see if I can remember it

Ok we have the same issue. Nvm got no better way of doing it than svetlozar_draganov , sorry @_@
