            For custom geometry archives, we can temporarily export "mel script" to reconstruct the scene and render with VRay but, we have heavy scenes with this tricks.
            I hope to test VRay and XGen soon.

                <shrug> Only because someone else coded it and they picked it up.

                  Yes, i do not understand why Autodesk makes Arnold stuff...
                  Example : C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2014\devkit\plug-ins\AbcArnold

                    They don't; they were given the code along with the respective library by the respective studio (Sony etc).

                      Still a lot of work to make this really usable... Sadly, these archives do not work on my computer (i.e. xgen refuses to create them at all), and I'm working on the hair support now. If someone knows why xgen can't create archives and can share some experience, will be greatly appreciated.

                          Awesome. Have a short that's all lit and ready to render. We shelved it and decided to wait for xgen since joe alter never got shave working properly with vray and hair3. And shave didnt properly support standalone either.

                          Pretty happy to see progress!

                              Work for me (but i am on Maya 2015 beta...).
                              1) Create a sphere
                              2) Save your scene
                              3) XGen --> Export selection as archive
                              4) XGen --> Create description (custom geometry/Archive)
                              5) XGen ---> open xgen windows
                              Primitives tab, archives file, and oyu add your archive

                                It works also on my colleague's computer, but not on mine . Very weird. I've tried 2015 beta - the same thing. As a bonus, mental ray crashes with xgen on 2015 ...

                                About the colors, yes, they are working now. I use the C++ api which gives direct access to the values, I don't need to deal with ptex directly
