  • Re: **** PLEASE POST ALL VFR4 PROBLEMS HERE *****

    Hi all.

I've got a stubborn VRfR4 problem I hope I can get help on. Whenever I try to render the scene below (which has texture maps in it), VR starts up fine, generates the below error message and promptly crashes Rhino. Here's a printscreen I managed to take before Rhino closed:

There was a thread in these forums about texture mapping issues causing Rhino/VR to crash and in my situation I'm wondering if the problem is something I'm doing specifically or if it is a known bug (and is there a way to work around it.)

Let me know if you need more details, and thanks in advance!

Something is wrong with one of you're meshes. The first thing I'd do is check for bad options in rhino. Usually bad objects don't mess very well, so that might be the culprit.

If I try to get all materials from one file to an other, than I select all object with materials and copy it to the new file and per undo I "delete" the objects and layers again. All materials stay copied, that's good. Bug: the two sided material miss the submaterials.

I'll take a look to see if I'm not sending the values over properly - its possible.
Today I have seen, there is a new vray help page, especially for materials and I have seen, I can rotate the aniso reflection dir per negativ value. (Hmm, no simily with big wondering eyes here. )

you've always been able to use negative numbers for anisotropy(as far as I remember)... positive for stretching along the U direction and negative for the v direction. You can also switch U and V direction through rhino via the Dir command then the option Swap UV (the viewport won't update the changes until you exit the command). This is useful to match surfaces to the same u and v directions for use with the same material.

Rhino 4 SR2 + VRAY = Runtime library crash! HELP!

I have a very simple model containing a 100 or so shiny chrome metal spheres.
Everytime I begin to render, Rhino crashes shortly after creating rendering
meshes.. The crash occurs with either SR1 or SR2. If I use less balls
it does not crash. I'm not sure if this is a Rhino issue or Vray issue so I have also posted a message in the Rhino newsgroup.

I have a Rhino model that I can upload in the hopes that someone can take a look at it.
I really need to figure out a way around this problem....! Thanks in advance
for any help. Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

              Thanks,
              Chet

                Chet,

If you didn't see it, check my response on the Rhino Newsgroup. I think its just running out of memory, which can happen with a 5 million poly scene.

In Global Switches, there's a box to enable/disable textures. Make sure you haven't accidentally unchecked that. Beyond that I'm not sure what else could be wrong.

only box that i have found is about the maps. and it is not unchecked. anyway, the problem continues when i set the default settings. is it normal that i don t have any boxes about texture, is my version the normal one?

                            Hi ASGvis team,

thank you for the beta release. ;D

                            Some little first questions:

                            - I havn't seen a readme file at the end of install - where can it be found?

                            - If I shut down the render slaves, than the spawner show an error message. Without confirm the error, the slave PC dosn't shutdown and I must login the slave engine to shut down it. Could help a WINDOWS option to shutdown the PC so that this error is ignored as a first workaround?

                              Dear Micha-

You can find the readme here - C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 4.0\Plug-ins\VRayForRhino\Help

I am just curious- did you do a full uninstall of the internal build you have been testing with us?

If you cannot find the readme at all. You may have to uninstall VfR and install the latest V-RayforRhino.exe.

                              Best-

                              Corey
                              Best regards,

The Spotlight cone still reaches a maximum spread when the ratio of diameter to cone length is around 10:4.

                                A simple Test:

Rendered in perspective with Rhino's renderer:

                                Rendered in VfR:

Squeezing the ratio to nearer 10:2 would help me no end!
