    Re: Batch Render for Rhino

    Hi Dalomar-

    1. I have the old version installed (but never used it). I can't install the new version by drag and drop or the plugin manager. I already saved the contents of the zip to a permanent folder before doing so.

When I drag and drop, I get an error message that says:

    BatchRender.rhp

**Unable to load BatchRender.rhp plug-in: Rhino service release not specified.**

I wonder if the old exe version may be causing a conflict? Or perhaps there's something about the latest Rhino Service release? [updated: uninstalled- no change...]

    2. Awesome! Having a choice for which visopt settings to use in batch render will save a ton of time for me.

      Re: Batch Render for Rhino

hmmm....that seams odd for two reasons...first, the name of the plugin file is VrayBatchRenderer (although you might have taken a short cut on writing the details) and second, there's nothing within the plugin that specifies a certain service release. The old exe version shouldn't really becausing the conflict because the new version was rewritten (in a different language) from the ground up. Also, I believe I have the old version installed and it hasn't affected anything.

I think what might help is installing an updated version of RhinoScript which you can find find at the link below. Maybe that will be enough to allow it to load.

        Re: Batch Render for Rhino

        thanks so much Dalomar!!

The Rhinoscript idea didn't work, but was a good one anyway.

Fortunately, I got it installed now. Your note about the filename is what clued me in- I didn't take any typing shortcuts, copied it right from the command line window. Somehow I either downloaded an old zip file, or perhaps got confused with a much earlier beta version. (I know I didn't rename anything...)

Will try it out this evening!

          Re: Batch Render for Rhino

well thats good. There was bound to be some confusion with two versions out there, but the improvements in the new one are worth it (IMHO). Make sure to take a look through the read me as that explains how every thing works. Its pretty straight forward once you get through it the first time.

            Re: Batch Render for Rhino

yes, very good! FYI- I did read the file at the beginning, very straight forward.

Some wishlist things, if I may:

The old version had a window where I believe you could see what was in the cue, it listed views, etc. You could also add a file to the cue without actually opening each one.

This version doesn't seem to have any of that until you start the renders, and there's no option to edit the cue or views. For example, how can someone delete a file from the cue?

Also, it would be great if there was a way to pause or cancel renders if you discover a mistake early on.

Finally, is there a way to edit or verify vismat options without opening each file?

Thanks again for this great tool and the awesome support!

how would i use this if i want a different sun angle for each render in the batch?

                Re: Batch Render for Rhino

At the moment there isn't any support for using different sun positions. The V-Ray Utilities support saving sun information with a given view (via the visViewManager), but that is not connected to the Batch Render plugin.

Batch Render for Rhino VBScript Runtime Error

I am having trouble running the Batch Render plugin.

after i have set up my batch file and i am ready to run it.

then i get the following error.

                  Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
                  Error: Object required: 'Rhino.GetPlugInObject(...)'
                  Line: 39
                  Char: 1
                  Code: 0

i'm on 4.0 SR4b and I have downloaded the latest version of RhinoScript.

                  Any ideas how to fix?

                    Re: Batch Render for Rhino

You also need to have the latest version of V-Ray for Rhino. That error can only be caused by not being able to access V-Ray's scripting. It maybe possible that the V-Ray not being loaded might cause that error, but its more likely that its cause by not having the newest version of V-Ray installed.

                      Re: Batch Render for Rhino

Where do you download Batch Render / SR1 tools etc. these days...? I've been looking all over the new website and it is *very* hard to find... the new website is very flashy and all - but I would prefer it to be functional, really.. I thought the downloads should be under the "My Account" tab, but there is nothing. I've also tried to log into the "Clients" section but this doesen't work - nor does it say what this section is for. The only download I can find is under products where you can download V-Ray for Rhino SR1 directly, but what about all the other stuff..??

                        Re: Batch Render for Rhino

I'm afraid that I am having some difficulty with this plug-in. I try to create a sequence, it doesn't let me continue if I choose to not include views from an external file, so I hit "e" then enter.

I navigate to my file, and then as it is searching for views, many times it then stops and I receive the message:

"This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem."

I'm using Rhino 4.0 SR 4b and VRay 01.01.71 Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would love to be able to batch render. Thanks!

                          Re: Batch Render for Rhino

Not sure why you would have an issue by choosing not to add additional views. That's basically the whole way of exiting the script, so that's rather odd. As to the other issue you're seeing, this is happening because the external file is being opened behind the scenes. You're seeing that message because the opening process is taking to long and the script becomes unresponsive. If you're getting that a lot, then you're best bet is to simply open that file, and add the views to an existing sequence.

There are some things that I'd like to go back to on this one and clear up. I'm not sure when I'd get the chance to, but since this was released, Rhinoscript added a method to suppress that dialog box. There are a few other small things too, but we'll see. If you have any further issues, please let me know.

                            Re: Batch Render for Rhino

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm new at this so please bear with me, and forgive me (and correct me) if I'm using the wrong terminology for things.

I've been given the task of finding a way to automate the rendering of several tens of objects (defined as Rhino models) with the same background, lighting, etc. One of our artists (who knows v-ray very well) will be setting up the scene; I'm just a programmer tasked with automating the process.

Is this the sort of thing the Batch Renderer is for?

                              Re: Batch Render for Rhino

The batch render is for rendering multiple images, either within a single file or multiple files, automatically. The new version (the one I recommend) allows you to choose from the views saved within the named views within a file. If you're looking at automating rendering a bunch of files this plugin is most likely what you're looking for.

Within the most recent version there's a few bells a whistles that might be worth while. A visopt file can be specified per view, which is useful in setting up a number of files all to use one single setup (great if there are multiple artists doing the work). Also, save paths and formats can be specified on a per file basis useful for keeping rendering of potentially hundreds of views nice and organized.

If you're a programmer, there are several things that you may want to look into. On the batch render side of things, the file that generates that sequence is just a windows ini file so you could even automate the creation of the batch sequence. You could also parse the log file thats created during the batch render sequence to check and see if there were any errors that occured. In a bit of an extended sense, we have V-Ray scripting methods that might be of use to you supporting your artists. The new batch render tool itself is done via scripting, so you can do quite a bit. If you're interested in details on v-ray scripting, just send me an email dalomar@asgvis.com

                                Damien,

Thanks for the quick response. I'll show this thread to the artist I'm working with here, since he'll understand some of the jargon that went over my head (like I said, I'm new here).

I'm very comfortable with scripting languages, so I have a hunch I will be sending you an email regarding v-ray scripting. That certainly sounds easier to me than writing something that will generate .ini files and then parse the output.

                                Thanks again,
