I also can't make it work with shadows. I guess this material is not finalized yet

A little wish - please set the default values so that it take the env as texture. I hope my settings at the screenshot are all right.

Should the matte workflow not allow to get an alpha channel with shadows? I get the standard alpha look only, the ground plane show no shadows at the alpha. Did I something wrong?

Thank you for the adding this tool!

The material is finalized. You need to change the alpha contribution to -1 if you what to see the correct shadow in the alpha channel.

I do that but can't see anything..
It's true- my shadows are not sharp from sunlight but soft diffuse one on the floor- rather gi with slight shadows.

Can you please see the screen shot in case my setup is wrongClick image for larger version

          Try -1 instead 1.

pardon, the latest test was with alpha contribution 1, instead of -1

you can find an image showing what happens after render is saved (alpha contribution -1.0)
It indicates shadow around the column but I can't get rid of the dark overlay. Should it be base material using a default one (gray)?

I play few hours already. The print screen was a mistake. I tried alpha -1, 0, 1 - none of those do what I expect.
Here is my best try so far but photoshop can't detect differences in the image and therefore it can't be selected and used furtherClick image for larger version

                  Hi,
I dream to open in photoshop saved render/s and to have already isolated correctly: shadows, reflections/reflractions. I was thinking wrapper material is designed to do that !! (at least I don't see where better advantage of using it would be)Please find the attached image if my explication isn't clear.Click image for larger version

I don't mind if several channels need to be rendered and saved, but I wish I can avoid the manual selection & cutting in photoshop
                  thanks again

Attached my frog example scene with a quick added reflection - reflection and shadow are looking fine, are keeped. In the image browser XnView you could see both version per switch the alpha on/off.

                        that's exactly my goal.
you did this using wrapper mat? May I also ask if this is a single render, no composing anything in ps?
                        thanks Micha

Right, wrapper material + base material with reflection and this is the direct render output downscaled only.

It works so good because the shadowed area is quite large like you can see at the alpha here. Or ...? I'm not sure. I didn't know that it works so good.

                              got it,

the problem was the reflections on the floor from the HDRI of dome light. Surrounding of a product must be 100% white otherwise thin overlay participates in the alpha. Mine looked like white but was not really

I suspect you rendered this without dome light with hdri on it? Dome light complicates a bit to get pure black values on the alpha in my case.. Click image for larger version
