  • Rendering with GPU Issue

Can you maybe elaborate on what this message means? I am testing rendering with GPU on a fairly simple scene but I get this message. To be honest, I have never really had much success rendering on GPU with VRay. My cards are a GTX 1080 and a GTX 750 Ti

    Hello, Matthew,
There are a number of specific conditions that may at may produce these errors. Some of them were fixed in the last two updates of V-Ray 5.
Can you please state the versions of V-Ray for SketchUp and your GPU drivers?
Does this error occur only with a certain scene? If it does, please share it with us via https://www.chaosgroup.com/help/contact/support/scene for further investigation.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Thank you for providing the scene.
I was not able to reproduce the errors using similar hardware to yours and the same drivers.
Could you please confirm my suspicions by:
        1) removing the beta Cosmos assets you've used and then attempt to render it
        2) removing the Laubwerk assets you've used and then attempt to render it

I removed the tree, which is from Globe Plants and the 2 Cosmos files. This is what happened (see below)

(crazy thing is that when I opened this file, it said it was already open, so something was still holding on to it even though I closed it 2 days ago)

I could not stop the render. Had to close SketchUp. Looked at my processes and low and behold I have 2 ghost sessions running from the 2 tests I did.

Seems to render fine when I remove the 750Ti - Do you think it's just a memory thing, since the 750 only has 2GB?

              Hi ValeroStudio,

It is most probably a memory thing.
You have to keep in mind that V-Ray will be limited by the memory of the least capable GPU when you're on a multi-GPU system.
You can also try rendering with the experimental Out-of Core mode introduced recently:
Advanced Render Settings / render Parameters / GPU Memory management / Out of Core
Note that this option can significantly decrease performance in specific situations (with many displaced surfaces for example).

              Regards,
              Konstantin

Thanks Konstantin. This worked with a file I was working on this week that crashed SketchUp when trying to render using GPU. It still seems to cause an issue with the test scene I sent you. That scene will not render at all using GPU.

I was able to successfully render the scene:

On the other hand there are some missing textures in the archive that might be preventing some of the effect to get rendered:
                  Code:
Bitmap file "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_disp_4k.jpg" failed to load: error in file format:3: The system cannot find the path specified. [TABLE="cellpadding: 0, cellspacing: 0"]
                  [TR]
[TD]Bitmap file "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4 k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_nor_4k.jpg" failed to load: error in file format:3: The system cannot find the path specified.[/TD]
                   		[/TR]
                  [TR]
                  [TD]Failed to load bitmap "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4 k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_nor_4k.jpg"[/TD]

                  [TR]
[TD]Bitmap file "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4 k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_rough_4k.jpg" failed to load: error in file format:3: The system cannot find the path specified.[/TD]
                   		[/TR]
                  [TR]
                  [TD]Failed to load bitmap "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4 k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_rough_4k.jpg"[/TD]
                   		[/TR]
                  [TR]
                  [TD]Failed to load bitmap "C:\Users\xpuma\OneDrive\Desktop\rocks_ground_06_4 k_jpg\rocks_ground_06_disp_4k.jpg"[/TD]
                   		[/TR]
                  [/TABLE]
                  I also noticed the following:
                  Code:
Peak memory for frame 0: 3.09 GiB collected for 22 categories
This might explain why removing the 2GB GPU from rendering has helped you.

It still seems to cause an issue with the test scene I sent you. That scene will not render at all using GPU.
Do you mean that 'Out of core' still doesn't solve this for you?

                  Konstantin
