  • cosmos object positions are off in render

I have a few cosmos object in my model. They used to render correctly. However since last week all cosmos objects appear a few inches off their expected positions in render. The objects appear fine in model though. Wonder what I have done wrong?
here is a screen shot of what it looks like in model:

And the render looks like this:
Click image for larger version Name:	Render-Screenshot.jpg Views:	0 Size:	136.9 KB ID:	1126862
The problem objects are circled in red. See how their positions are off from expected.
I've posted the SU file and images here. Note that the render are only 30% done so there are noises.

    Please help. Thanks.

p.s. I later found that this problem not limited to cosmos objects, but all proxy models. See below a different SU scene and corresponding render. All wine bottles imported as proxies are off position in render. I am pretty sure when I first imported them they were rendered correctly. Somehow after I close and re-open the project things start broken.

    Hi mandy_lam,

Merging the Cosmos assets + exploding the objects seems to have fixed the issues, maybe somehow the group messes things up; see if it's the same on your end, while we investigate further. Thanks!

      Nikoleta,
Thanks for responding. I merged and exploded the cosmos object then render. The position is correct in render now but materials are gone. Sorry I am a beginner. Not sure how to get back the materials. Do you have a pointer to instructions/tutorial?
Besides the proxy models, I found that even my rectangular light positions are all off for unknown reason. I posted a new project including both scene 1 and scene 2 on the shared google drive. Hope you can help examine the issue. For scene 2 (the bar scene), the file "scene 2 good render 20211007.png" was a good render I was able to get few days ago, where the rectangle lights under each glass shelf and the louvre panels are rendered at the correct location. However on "scene 2 bad render 20211010.png" and "scene 2 bad render 20211011 - after explode.png", the rectangle lights are all off in render while their position are correct in the SU model. I am quite confused now. Thanks in advance for helping.

        Hey mandy_lam,

        Would it be possible to get in touch via our contact form so we can schedule a remote session and investigate on the spot? Might be easier, I cannot seem to reproduce the disappearing materials issues in your scene;

@Nikoleta, thanks for looking into the issue during our remote session. Wonder if you are able to find the root cause and provide fix? i am still hoping to get a fix instead of redrawing the problem objects in my model. thanks.

            Hi mandy_lam,

Your issue seems to be caused by misplaced Cosmos assets preview geometry - the rendered result is the correct one.
I'm not sure how this misplacement happened.
It seems you've entered the Cosmos asset Component and moved the faces inside.
Note that the same can be done for other proxies.

In any case you can refresh the cosmos asset previews by selecting each one and changing its preview type.
You can select Bounding Box and then go back to Low.
You'll then see the actual position of the asset.

thank you. it works. I don't recall messing up the cosmos objects except trying to scale it slightly. Anyway your suggested steps resolve the issue.
Besides this issue, the same model also has similar issues (positions off in render) with several rectangle lights in the "bar" scene. Could you take a look too? e.g. the "Accent-Rectangle Light-glass shelf-Bar" lights. Thanks.

                I'm glad to hear.
I guess we can add a quick way for refreshing all special objects' preview widgets.

You are correct - some of the lights' widgets are also misplaced.
This is the same exact issue - you might have accidently moved the 'internal geometry' of the light widget.
To refresh it you can just toggle the following option on and then off:
