Re: Call for more testers: The mighty bug hunt!

    Hi,

First, sorry for my bad english, I'm french.

I'm a french training center. I teach SketchUp and Rendering with Kerkythea for about 100 people per year.

Kerkythea leads many people to frustration.
Some of my students are disgusted.

So, I decided, last week, to change of rendering engine.
I tried all rendering engines on the market (assuming compatibility with SketchUp and Windows and MacOS)

VRay is the only one that works properly.
    - The GUI is understandable.
    - Engine is integrated in SketchUp
    - VRay materials and SketchUp materials are the same
    - there is pratically no limitation as certain rendering-engine shows

So, I will become a good-prescriber of VRay for you !

Otherwise, I'm pretty interrested by help you correcting the bugs.
Last 2 days, I found 2 bugs (one regarding Component-names leading to appearance of bad Component in place of the other Component, the second one, I don't still understand but leading to non-verbose-crash).

I was software developper some years ago, so I know the difficulties of your job.

Let me know if you're interrested by my reports despite my english.

    Thanks for your job.

    Regards.

FROSTY - well since you said please... okay

Beton04f - Glad to have you aboard. Don't worry about the english, most of our customers are from other countries all over the globe, so I don't think many of our users would say english is their first or best language necessarily. You're not alone The more people we have testing this software, from as diverse of a group as possible, the better off the product will be in the end.

GRAPHELER - We would like your office to upgrade as well, thanks for helping out!

MKELLA - Hopefully it will, if not, we might be able to track it down with your help.

BIEBEL - Excellent! :oints to the beta forum:: dive in!

DRENNAN - Hopefully the beta will fix your problems, win the lottery and cure cancer! If nothing else though, I hope it does work out better for you than 1.48.66. You're in, come and play!

Re: Call for more testers: The mighty bug hunt!

              Hi,

Is the following, http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=3613.0 of february 2008, still valid?

With this update, we have made changes to our support process. We have begun to implement a more efficient bug tracking process. In the past we would just create a "bug thread", and ask that users post any technical questions or concerns in that thread. This was an easy way to collect a list of bugs, but it was not very useful when it came to actually fixing them. Our new support and bug tracking system allows us to address questions and concerns much faster, and much easier than our previous method.

If you have any technical questions or concerns, please follow these simple instructions:

              Quote
              1. Click "Support" at the top of the site. You will then be taken to a page that will give you links to our Knowledgebase and User Forums, as well as a new option to "Contact Our Support Team".

              2. Click on "Contact Our Support Team". You will be taken to a page that will have links for Technical Support and Feature Requests for each of our products.

              3. Click on " V-Ray for Rhino Technical Support" or "V-Ray for Sketchup Technical Support". You will be taken to a page with a form, and some simple instructions that explain what information we will need from you, in order to best answer your questions. We would also like to note, that the links that you see for Feature Requests, will not put you in contact with the correct support team. This is intended for requesting new features in our products only.
Or, is that another way to send bug report ?

Re: Call for more testers: The mighty bug hunt!

That looks like it's a bit dated. There's another post in the beta section titled "How to submit a bug report". That one is more up to date.

I would also love to beta test the new patch. But I wonder if besides some problems with materials something has been done about this subject: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=7460.0

Don't want to look impatient but after the post of March the 1st nothing happenend or did I miss another topic about DR Spawner?

Re: Call for more testers: The mighty bug hunt!

VALKAMA - Well we certainly appreciate your interest in our product, come on in!

OZBOZ - The DR Spawner has gotten some attention, but there are a couple issues with it. The original issue with DR was about licensing. Then, since nobody could really test DR when the licensing issue was there, we weren't able to find out if or what bugs it had. So we are currently fixing bugs related to DR, currently there's an issue where if you use more than 1 DR spawner at a time, at least one of the other DR Spawners will render black buckets when contributing to a render. I believe that's the only issue left with DR though. There have been tons of fixes since 1.48.66, we are currently up to 1.48.77, and we plan on releasing 1.48.78 by the end of the week.

(In case anyone was wondering why 1.48.78 isn't going to be the final patch, it's because 1.48.77 still has some rather nasty bugs. We are well on our way to knocking them out though. As long as no more nasty bugs spring up after fixing this next round of bugs, we might have something worth releasing soon.)

ACLARK - We would like you to be included too. Come on in!
                        Best regards,

Thank you for your clear explanation. Would love to test some of the new stuff and see how multiple (2/3 in my case) DR clients would behave. For now, most of the time one of them crashes.

Zarlieck - Well hello my friend. You would like to try to break our software and tell us what's wrong you say? Sounds great! Come along, tell us what's wrong... la la la ::walks off singing a song::

Ozboz - Fantastic, we could always use some feedback on different DR configurations, so the more people that test it out, the better!

Anyone that is trying to figure out where to find the links to the latest beta build, you need to reply to this thread, saying that you would like to join the beta testing group. You need to be aware that using beta software can have it's pitfalls. We recommend backing up all work prior to using the beta version of our software. It is still a beta version because it could have unknown bugs, which may negatively impact your work. Please use this software with caution.

Once you're sure you would like to test the latest beta version, and you have posted in this thread, as others have in the past, one of us will add you to the testing group on our forum. Once you are in that group, you will see a forum (on our main forum page) titled "VFSU BETATESTING". In that forum, you should see a thread titled "WIP Releases >>ALWAYS THE LATEST<<". That's where I post the updates when new builds are made. We welcome anyone that would like to test out our upcoming release, even if you don't own our software yet.
                              Best regards,
                              Devin Kendig

I would like to join the team. Just re-installed 1.48.66 a few days ago after reverting back and I just couldn't do it. Way too buggy, really cant wait for a more stable version to come out because generally, the features in this release are a must. Please sign me up, I would like to help out.
