Trying to add a z-depth channel for use in photoshop and keep coming up with this effect - z-depth clamp is ticked so don't understand why this is happening

As a jpeg is this the problem?
The rendered image is a jpeg and so is the VFB channel

Not using a physical camera but an hdr image for the GI

sorry, don't know. I've seen something similar with vray raw image, but don't think it's a format issue if it's a JPG. My only other thought is if you are using distributed rendering, some of the buckets might not be processing correctly.

I'm not using distributed rendering, but I'm going to try another scene/model and see if it still does it if it does I'll reload Vray and keep trying - cheers for your input

I also come across this same problem. One thing I found is that if I use the lens shift, these strange blocks appear and when I set it to zero (ie. not correct the perspective) they disappear. Maybe it only works here and in certain situations, but it could work for you to? Good luck!

Still no joy with this problem - reloaded Vray and not using lens shift - but still getting the square blocks - just not getting along with vray at the moment on a mac - seems to be having a lot of problems - ah well onwards and upwards as they say

I also did some more tests, and indeed my suggestion doesn't work always. It's very unstable

The model I'm rendering is 45meg but I'll strip it down and see if I can decrease the size - any tips on doing this? Does it make any difference in size if I 'join' separate elements together?

Yeah, see how much you can delete while the file still produces the error. It's actually useful troubleshooting sometimes - you can find a bad image or geometry as you start to whittle down the file.
