  • About Vray Cosmos

    Hi, thank you for improvements..
Is there any limitation about cosmos assets? As far as i understand from the video you share they are free and you can download and use them from cosmos window inside sketchup.. I couldn't download that is why i am asking..

    Hi kenancakir

Chaos Cosmos Browser is part of the installation of V-Ray 5 and does not require any other specific actions. You can access the downloadable content of the Chaos Cosmos Platform from within the host platform after the V-Ray installation is finished. You can get the latest update of V-Ray 5 for SketchUp, update 1 here: https://download.chaosgroup.com/?platform=56&product=47

There are no current limitations in regards to the Chaos Cosmos assets - you should be able to download them from the Cosmos Browser and import them directly in your SketchUp model. Can you let us know what is it that you were not able to download - any screenshots/recordings would be of great help.

We've also prepared a video on Placing Chaos Cosmos assets in your scene in V-Ray 5 for SketchUp - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulCK...hannel=ChaosTV

      Hello, kenancakir ,
Perhaps I misunderstand what you say by "I couldn't download". Do you have V-Ray 5.1 for SketchUp installed but are unable to download any Cosmos assets?
If, by chance, this is the case, please share more info:
      1. Are there any errors printed in the Cosmos Browser?
      2. Is the import process confirmed as successful in the Cosmos Browser but nothing appears in the SketchUp viewport?
      3. Please share with me the cb.log file located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup\ChaosCosmos
      Kind regards,
      Peter

Just upgraded and loving Cosmos, really adds value to the Vray 5 experience. one question though, where is it saving downloaded assets to and can this be changed as don't want my 980 primary drive getting stuff like this dumped onto it.

Could you please send the file cb.log located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup\ChaosCosmos ?
Additionally, please click the Content Browser menu button at the top-right corner or its window, choose 'About' and state what is the build number you see there.

            Hello, Jason,
Glad you like the new addition!
I understand well your concern about disk space. Currently, unlike the V-Ray material library, it is not possible to specify a custom location for downloaded Cosmos asset files. It is on the to-do list, though.

            Kind regards,
            Peter

kenancakir , please follow these steps to regain the ability to download Cosmos assets.
                      1. open Windows Services
                      2. find "Chaos Cosmos Browser Service"
                      3. right-click on it and select "Restart"
Once done, everything should be in order.

                      Kind regards,
                      Peter

Edit : Reinstalling didn't change the error..

Love the new cosmos assets. I tried editing a couple of the lights, wanted to lower the intensity. But they do not seem to be editable. is this correct?

Happy to read you like Chaos Cosmos!

There are a couple of methods to adjust the lighting of assets with illumination sources:
                              1. Adjust the Intensity multiplier directly from the Cosmos Asset options
                              2. The Cosmos assets are merged and the resulting lights are then directly adjusted.
Could you please advise which method you used?
Also, what are the names of the assets that appear non-editable?

                              Kind regards,
                              Peter
