    Re: creating a desk lamp

    Your scene is looking better.
I would like to have a rendering like page 70 of manual
That scene is lit by the sun, so if that is what you want (and I think it will look better too) then adjust SU until the sun comes through the window and falls on the scene. When you are happy with the position, turn ON the physical camera, check the 'override suns parameters' box (in the environment roll-out), set the sun 'size multiplier' to about 3 (for softer shadows) and render.
If you have previously set vray lights (rectangular etc) then to start with turn them off, so you can see the effect of the sun alone. After making adjustments to the exposure of the physical camera to get the levels right, and if you still have dark areas in the scene, then re-introduce the 'artifical' lighting to light those dark areas.

    Good Luck

                Re: creating a desk lamp

thank you very much every body that guided me in previous stages. I would like to write my experiments about using vray sketch up foe interior design until now.please tell me if someof them may be wron, thank you in advance
1.in interior rendering when we use GI only it is not necessary to enclose spaces by cieling but it would be problematic when we use enviroment>sky the scene would be so bright.

2.when we want to see light beams inside the house we must select enviroment>m>sky but uncheck "override sun parameters" to use sketch up sun and shadow.

??? but still the windows are so bright ??? would you please tell m why?

                it is my option

I suprised why this picture is still so bright and the colors of wall and sofa looks dirty?

thank you very much in advance

                  Re: creating a desk lamp

Too much light coming into the camera. increase the camera 'shutter speed' to say 250.
Blotches - check the DMC(QMC) sampler - make sure the 'adaptive amount' is set to 0.85.

thank you very much, I increased the shutter speed and added a rectangular light in top of the scene, kit is the result.thank you very much
would you please tell me how can I solve the problem of dirty materials?

                    thank you ;D

                      Re: creating a desk lamp

try lowering your adapptive amount (QMC sampler) from 1 to (.85), lowering your noise... from .01 to around .005 and maybe increasing the hsph subdivision of your Irradiance map. see how.

                          hello again.
I tried to make my scene better.
in addition to bellow setting I added a rectangular light with multi of 3000! I suprise why this small room needs too much light but still the result is quite different from GI.should I add more lights? ???
thank you very much in advance ;D

                            Re: creating a desk lamp

                            and one more question please,
when I started learning Vray I started by global illumination and only sketch up materials . in rendering with GI the texture and color of SU materials (like the sofa) was acceptable, but when I started using enviroment and physical camera sketch up materials don't have the same quality.

should I just use vismat materials?

                            thank you and regards

                              Re: creating a desk lamp

Looking at the render and your settings, I suggest you increase the Hsph subdivs (like Nomer suggested) to say 80 - this will improve the quality.
The size of the rectangular light matters. So if you have its multiplier set at 3000, then its dimensions are probably relatively small. Try increasing the dimensions of it to even out the infil lighting. (think of it like a fill-in light a photographer or a film crew would use).
Also turn off that lamp in the dead centre of the picture - it is not helping (in a number of ways).
Textures - yes, the SU textures are ok up to a point, but for rendering and higher quality, then larger (up to the SU limit of 1024) will give better results.

thank you very much for your answer.I will try it.about Hsph subdivs, I did it in one of my rendering but the sun beams disappeared! may be I am wrong but I will try it again.thank you very much from all of you to spend time for beginners.
