  • Need help with outdoor scene

    Hey,
This is really annoying me, cos it's been a while since i've had to use vray, and i can't remember how to do some of the simple stuff. I'm trying to do 4 outdoor renders, orthographic projection style like. they don't have to be unbelievably precise.
Here's where i am so far, and my problems. I have the detail turned down low, just to get a quick render out.

Ok, so the biggest problem right now, is that i need to get the shadows going. The sunlight like. I have them set up how i want them in SU (I've the 4 scenes set up, ready to go). In the VRay Settings, I have under Global, Lights, Default Lights, Shadows and Hidden Lights turned on. Environment has GI and Background on (see below for background problem). And i'm using LC and DMC. I don't think i've changed any of the default settings really.
The other main problem is that i've never really had any luck getting a background working. I've tried tutorials and manuals, but it always either comes out white, transparent (black) or a bluish-grey haze, which looks dirty. Doing it through photoshop with alpha's is messy and it gives mixed results.

So if anyone could help me with those two things, that'd be great (for a start! )
    cheers,
    N

ps, this needs to be done within the next week realistically, so i should be pretty quick at replying etc with renders where needed.

    Try this
    1 turn physical camera on
2 You will need to have the scene in 'perspective' mode for the camera and sunlight to work.
3 In SU set the field of view to 1deg (it won't go any lower) - this will give you an almost orthographic view - its the best you can do, you won't get it completely paralell
4 Set the camera shutter speed quite high - say 800

    This should render ok

    Background
Personally I would insert this afterwards, although to be precise I would lay the finished render over the background - much the easiest way (export a .png file and there is no background to worry about)
However if you want to include an image in the original render, and as the view is virtually parallel, then you can put your image on a billboard behind the model.

    Good luck

i had the sunlight working before with vray though, with physical camera off. I just can't remember how i did it, and all my visopts are gone since i updated from SU6 to 7 and vray to whatever the one is now.

Sorry, but I only use physical camera so I'm not going to be much good to you!

Try, turning off the physical camera, and unchecking the 'override sun parameters' in the 'envirnment' slot - seemes to work ok
