  • Light blotch issue

    Hey guys.

Got a bit bored today and decided to test different things like the free Arroway textures, and HDRI maps. The Eames Chair is from the Warehouse and I upped the polycount using Subdivide and Smooth.

I used Jackson's technique in blending the Vray Sun and an HDRI image. However, I ended up with this little light blotch in the render. I've had this issue before on other projects but I usually just Photoshop them out. But now I would like to resolve it properly.

I've changed the Color Mapping type from Linear Multiplier to Exponential to HSV Exponential. The light blotch has definitely improved from switching it but has not fully resolved the issue.

    Any help would be great!

Edit: thought I'd throw in a Photoshopped version of it too just for kicks

I did. I've deleted it now, re-rendered but the light blotch happened again!

Have you disabled caustics? I never use caustics for arch viz (not many villas have swimming pools in Sweden ) so I never see these bright spots everyone complains about.

Very nice lighting, just goes to show that good lighting can produce stunning images from even the simplest model.

I haven't got caustics enabled. It's quite strange. Perhaps the sun is too bright?

Did you have clamp output disable and subpixel?

Under the environment tab, for both the GI and Background colour, I set up a blend texture. For the first texture, a standard Sky texture was applied (I changed the size multiplier to 2 for softer shadows). The second texture was an HDRI environment which I got from here. When that is set, under the blend tab, the blend amount is set to 0.99.

And with the new version I think you can hide that spot.

Is there anyway to make the Vray Sun look as bright as the sun in the HRDI image? Or does it always look like a simple ball?
                        I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.

The sun is always going to look like sphere. The only way to get the HDRI effect is in post processing.

Please start a new topic for this. Thread gets confusing otherwise.
