Re: New version of V-Ray for SketchUp has been released! 1.49.01

I've been trying to get Vray to work for months and still can't get anything out of this program. I installed it, but it just does not respond to the option and render comands. What is the deal?????????

SUPERLOTADO - Please contact support@asgvis.com about your trouble, so we can help get you up and running.

TOURNIQUETMASTER - We are currently working on a new release of V-Ray for Rhino, there are some bug fixes that are being done that effect both products, but for the most part we are focusing on V-Ray for Rhino until a new version can be released.

Hey guys, any development news? Haven't heard anything for a long time.

When copying existing models with vray materials between files, the vray material settings aren't carried with them - having to remake/change the materials every time you start a new project that uses the same components is a massive massive time wasting bug. We need this fixed as soon as possible.

          Thank you.

Vray for Sketchup is becoming a bit of a disappointment to be honest.
I enjoyed using it in early versions.
I remember the very first version 1.0.0.74. It was FAST, the parsing time was short and the graphic output was great. Such a joy although material setup was tedious.
After that came 1.05.30. Better material handling (great) but the parsing time went up considerably. A workflow killer

The whole series of beta's since then were quite a ride.... some things improved, some things got lost.
It's really a story of one step forward, two steps back....

What is the future of this software?....

I'd like to give a positive feedback for vfsu. My sense is that the current bugs are more or less figured out and people are just using it. I have been very productive with the current version. I keep trying other rendering software as I have time but I keep plugging along with vfsu, because for the quality output I can achieve in very short time (I do have a dedicated 6 core beast for the job...) I have found nothing else to compare. That said, I am still eagerly awaiting the new beta to play with.
Thanks devin, fernando, keith, and everyone! keep up the good work.

We are very close to done start the open beta process for V-Ray for Rhino, after that we are going to work in both software at the same time (V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for Sketchup). We made some changed on the Sketchup build and In my opinion the software is better and easier that ever before. But I would like to know more details of the features that you like from the old build that are missing or hard to use in this new version. We want to give you guys the best software and to do that we need your feedback and help. Also if you have other issues, I think I can help. Please feel free to contact me by email. Well, bugs are still there, I just mean there are workarounds for the most part...
                  quick list:
                  - copy and paste in sketchup loses material properties
                  - DR rendering is flakey
                  - need a current vrimage converter
                  - parsing time does seem to be very slow for large scenes (may just be an SU limitation)

The major improvements over the older versions that I am happy about
                  - DOF is working
                  - displacement works (was lost for a few beta releases)
                  - add and sort multiple material layers

I'm sure there's more, but these are the things that are major in my workflow.

That too! and having the additional Tex maps, plus the new material types. Yes, the improvements to the material controls has been great.

My biggest issue is that when I move a Sketchup file to another PC, textures and materials are gone.
Because of this, I can't use the software.
Even though I love Vray's output and I like to use it, these kinds of things kill it.

One issue I still have is with the UI on OS X. Materialeditor is not resizable (the editor part).
I saw the maxwell dialog windows (OK based on siverlight), but it looks good!
Also z-depth pass still gives errors in some cases (black boxes). And the copy/paste from another document...
                          So come on next beta!
AMD Ryzen 9, RTX 2080Super, ArchiCAD 24, Vectorworks 2020, Sketchup 2021 Pro, Vray Next for Sketchup, Skatter, Twinmotion 2020

I've been using the new build since it was released. Im still finding that the bugs are really taking their toll on productivity.
                            My biggest problem is:

If I press render after leaving SU idle for a long period of time. Vray crashes. If I save that file and reopen it. Most material layers
are missing or doubled. Its not uncommon to open a material to see 3 diffuse, option or reflection layers/tabs when there used to be
only one. Most often the reflection and refraction layers disappear.
Now I am terrible at remembering to save files. Most of the time I have to go back on an old save and redo work that has already been done.
So the work around is always save before you hit render. But I do feel this bug along with a few others should have been sorted before moving
on to Vray4Rhino development. Just a wee bit disappointed to hear that development has started on extra features like RT for Vray4Rhino when
long standing bugs still havent been fixed.

The things I love about this software are, its speed and good output. To me this is what keeps me with this product.

The things I dislike about this software are, Its many bugs and RAM limitation put on by SU. I manily do exterior scenes. My biggest battle is
keeping the poly count down in SU so that it wont cash when rendering with Vay.

Your concerns are understandable and your suggestions are valid. We have fixed a number of bugs during VfR development, and can't wait to bring them over to VfS. We also have a trick up our sleeve to help with the memory limitations, but we haven't quite gotten it to a point where it's easy to work with. We appreciate your support, and look forward to putting out a more solid build once we come back from Rhinoceros land.
                              Best regards,

                                Good luck with Rhino.
I think I will find another render engine for Sketchup. It's really a pitty.
