  • Faster Single GPU

I have a Titan RTX and I need more speed. I only have room for one large card, maybe two, but DELL doesn't have a part I need. What is the fastest single card available? I looked at the benchmarks, but if I am not mistaken, the #1 is 16 of these https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-...adro/rtx-8000/. Is the RTX 8000 the fastest card available?

According to rumors, new GPUs from NVidia are just around the corner, it might make sense to wait and see what they bring to the table.

    Best regards,

There's an announcement scheduled for the end of august and cards apparently launching on september 17th if you need a timeline! I'm waiting on this generation of cards, they're supposed to be adding in much more ram than before on their standard gaming cards!

glorybound RTX 8000 is exactly the same performance of a Titan RTX, we have both at office.. you will not be able to tell which is which based on performance
The only reason you would ever consider this card is VRAM honestly
I have 2x Titan RTXs in my personal machine, it is a great setup with NVlink
The issue in your case is that your system can only have one card, I think it is time you should think about a new machine now..
Even if it is something just for your GPU rendering, could spend around a thousand Euros on a machine that handles 3 GPUs without issues
Could do 2x Titan RTXs at this machine, or 3 if you want to.. GPUs scale 100% linearly with Vray GPU

Yeh we are only a few weeks away from Ampere 30 series cards. 100% wait till these drop, and hopefully there wont be supply issues. Rumours for specs and increased performance over the 20 series makes them quite appealing, especially if AMD Big Navi cards drop around the same time, and Nvidia have to price aggressively. I imagine though they will be roughly the same as the 20 series in price, but faster.

I was thinking about a machine just for GPU. I'll see what happens next month. DELL says I can have two Titans, without a problem, but they are out of stock for the adapter I need to get more 8-pins power connectors. They don't even have a part number for me so I can look for one someplace else.

Is it only about the 8-pin connectors??
It is an easy thing to solve by the way, could buy and external power supply for that GPU.. granted you have a PCIe slot for your second GPU

But honestly, having a separate machine for your GPU rendering is a better idea.. hardware now is quite cheap, you can build something nice for 1k Euros that handles 3 GPUs
Could decide after Ampere release in couple of weeks

I am amazed that when I add two Titans to an online computer configuration, it adds $7500. Talk about a markup! A Titan RTX will cost $2500, so for two, we are talking $5000. Where do they come off tacking $1500 to that?

I don't think it was DELL. I did it on two websites last night and both marked them up about the same. BOXX, holy crap! Talk about a convenience fee.

Did you add custom liquid cooling to them or something?
It is a shame honestly, they are just reselling you a product that is already on shelf at every shop.. it shouldn't be 7500$ for 2 Titans,
On Maingear's website, it is 5700$ for 2x Titans and you get 200$ off on the entire build

It could have changed something else, like a larger case and bigger power supply, I am not sure. I would really like to just stick a second Titan in this case, which DELL tells me will handle it. It is a shame that they haven't really figured out the external GPU thing, Don't you lose 30% with external GPU's? I emailed our local computer shop and I haven't received any replies. I would like to just drop it off, have a second card install no matter what it takes, and be done with it.

You lose some performance if this external card is through Thunderbolt(like what people do with eGPUs on laptops)
In your case, what you will do is have that card connected through PCIe slot, just like your other Titan card.. you will not lose any performance

So 2 ways about doing this,
You buy an external power supply and leave it next to your PC, and have it power your second Titan card
or get an eGPU enclosure which includes powersupply, and looks cool on your disk.. you will connect it through a PCIe extender to your PC

Both would take 5 minutes to setup .. let me know if you need more details and some links

It is shame that Dell use their own proprietary boards and connectors, so the user cannot add a second GPU easily on a 20k-Euros workstation
And the Dell guys probably know nothing about these external solutions, but you can ask
