Not V-ray benchmarks, but I guess we can get a sense of what these new cards are capable of - let's wait for the 3090 scores to show up. Source: https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-...KyiqtUoYouzem4

Update: Redshift 3080 benchmarks just in, single 3080 at 3m9s - compared to a single 2080ti at 4m3s. Source: Facebook/Redshift Official

Now that the cards are public, we can confirm that we are seeing a 2X average improvement across the board when comparing the 3080 to the 2080 - for V-Ray GPU on CUDA, RTX, and Project Lavina.

Which won't be of much use in our line of business given the hard cap at 10GB of VRAM, right Phil?

Rumour mill suggests there will be RAM variations released ranging from 10GB upwards in the next few months. Fingers crossed.

I'm still thinking to get 2x 3090 first and watercool them - maybe add 2x 3080 later. Just have to figure out how much the powerline can handle here.
I'm not sure, but V-ray 5 might have the out of core feature available for RTX (??)

The GPU memory on boards can vary as new boards and variations are rolled out - as can NVLink support - what's important is that this GPU generation is 2X faster for us than the last, as GPU generations tend to persist for around two years.

Definitely ideal. Sadly for me it may mean a new MB, PSU and case...
EDIT: And moving to liquid cooling given how much power these things are going to be sucking.

I'd suggest waiting out a bit, the 3080 20GB rumors are resurfacing again and that card might be better fitted for CG work. That is, if you aren't in a rush

The power draw isn't as nuts as was originally expected. A 10900 / 3950x and a 3080 was coming in at around 511 watts so if you've got a decent 80+ 600w psu you're safe.

The 16gb 3070 was leaked by lenovo so far, I'd say the memory amounts will be determined by whether amd announce cards with 16gb of ram or not.

tricky pricing / perfomacne structure at play here...bit of a scam IMO

3080 10gb with no NVlink kind of useless for Vray GPU given its difficulties with complex scenes - only good for spheres and ultra optimized scenes.

3090 24gb with NVlink looks great for Vray GPU but will need a full new box to get 2 of them and custom for more than that.

If Chaos seperated CPU and GPU render engines into seperate products (and made the pricing fairer on render nodes) and invested time getting vray GPU out of experimental mode (that means OOC on par with RS and a more complete less buggy feature set) the 3080 would be more feasible as a render solution.

I wonder how much of a bottleneck for rendering you'll get with a 3090 on this new eGPU enclosure.....

I dont think this launch was aimed at CGI rendering markets. They're trying to get gamers to buy into the ray-tracing hype and 8k 60fps. There will for sure be a higher VRAM 3080 in the near future for people like us.

                                Gigabyte confirms GeForce RTX 3060 8GB, RTX 3070 16GB and RTX 3080 20G

                                https://videocardz.com/newz/gigabyte...-rtx-3080-20gb

Leaks seems to be confirming RTX 3080 20gb versions.

Even without an nvlink bridge - 2 of these cards in a given system would be excellent
