  • Substance 2 Material Too slow and Renders Differently on GPU.

When trying to use a Substance 2 Node in Vray Next 2.1 GPU mode, the material is slow to render, bogs down the ipr, and renders incorrectly compared to the CPU render of the same materal. See attached.

My specs: 1950x Threadripper and 4x Nvidia Titan Xp.

Is there any workaround to getting this work? Is baking out texture maps and linking them manually still the only way to use substance for Vray GPU.

Hello! There is a known issue for wrong render with displacement and Substance 2 in V-Ray GPU, which is already logged in our bug tracking system under VGPU-4031. Regarding the incorrect diffuse color I suspect that it is related to the version of the plugin. Are you using the latest Substancein3dsmax 2.2 ?

Yes, the problem also seems to be with the resolution of the image, as well as the diffuse color and displacement.

Yes I am using the latest version 2.2 (just redownloaded and installed last night). Attached is another render with a different substance material; same issue.

        Hello!
It turned out that Substance2 maps version 2.2 are always rendered at their defaults in V-Ray GPU, so any changes to parameters(diffuse, hue_shift etc.) are ignored when rendering in V-Ray GPU. I've logged the issue under VMAX-9125 and I'll update the thread when we have any news.

        Best,
        Tanya

            Hey, AbeTJH

Thank you for the post and feedback. Update: Unfortunately thе only way to fix the issue is baking for now, as you wrote.
            Cheers,

The same issue (Substance2 maps are rendered with their defaults) applies to Vray CPU IPR.A fix would be great!
              Thanks

                Thanks
Just to make it clear - this is not a V-Ray issue. Please contact the Substans guys for this.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done
