  • Decal sliding during deform

If I parent a decal to a mesh, it works fine moving with the mesh, but now I'm applying a bend deformer on the mesh. The decal appears to move with the mesh in the viewport, but in the render it slides around. Any way to make it stick or is this a bug?

    Hi brian_henry,
Unfortunately, this is the expected behavior since the V-Ray Decal dose not support Mesh Deformers in Cinema 4D.

After asking around, it was suggested to me that depending on whether your workflow can benefit from this, it might be useful to use the Pin Material Tag to ensure a texture follows the deformation correctly.
Here is an example:Click image for larger version

You can achieve this by following these steps:
        1. Create a V-Ray Material.
        2. Add the desired texture to the Diffuse in the material properties.
        3. Apply the material to an object.
        4. In the material tag properties, change the Projection type to Cylindrical. - Example
        5. Add the Pin Material Tag to the object. - Example
        6. The texture should now accurately follow the deformation of the object.
        Hope this helps.

Thank You Daniel. I've found another work around to this for my purposes. If you make a Point selection on the object you're applying the Decal to, then make the Decal a child of a Cloner object, set the Cloner to Object mode, Put the object in the object field and point selection in the Selection field, Then the decal follows the points when they move die to a deformer.
