3000 seat's and a headache....

i tried rendering this vith vray at a higher settings but it keeps hanging the machine…ill try tomorow morning…

Hi

of course .

Gigabyte switch ?

maybe a 1.5 ? would solve your problems :?

is 3.7 milion faces to much for vray to render…anything higher than 400x300 and it halts the machine to a complete stop…

i take it you have optimized your chairs to the maximum?

hmm. my hotel was closer to 40 or 50 million polys if i remember correctly

yup…or is it because im using a setting to high for this scene. maybe a simple lighting would do…i tried scanline and it was ok..

yeah have you tried shadow mapped spot lights

What are your machine specs?

I can render 4+ million poly’s with GI, area lights and at 9,000 pretty regularly…
but then we have dual xeons with 4 gigs of ram and the 3gb switch on windows xp… pretty lucky

-mrloafbot

Mine is dual xeon 3.06 with 1mb cache and 2gb ram…maybe the is an error with the geometry..

By the way guys…im thinking of getting a quad xeon…i and a friend of mine rendered an identical max file …his clock 9 min and i did 13…funny thing is his was an older xeon 2ghz 1mb cache machine.

generally speaking, unless you got a really good deal on the mobo and processors, quad layouts aren’t really worth the price.

youre right about the price - speed…but this is a second hand machine so the price tag is minimal, anyway it beat the time on my fastest machine by 4 min which is quite impressive. i was thinking of purchasing it and making it render all my work while i model with the other…

i just found out that tyan has a new motherboard that supports quad opterons…now that is some serios power…anyone have any coments about this?

reza.

maybe you take a look at the taskmanager. at which hight of memory does your computer breake down.

are you sure, you did install the gigabyte switch to tell window, not only to be able to use word, but also a real programm ?

at the moment i am rendering an interior of a huge ship with about 7.5 to 8 million polys, hdri, sunlight as vray, and over 100 single lights.

it nearly goes to the limit but does do the job.

so what are your settings ?

i tried doing the gigabyte switch in the boot.ini but everytime i try to use it…the comp restart again..
so im using the normal boring way…im using se7505vb2 intel motherboard…

Hi Reza,

I’ve rendered a scene with 19 million polys without any trouble. I also have
4GB of RAM but if you’ve got 2GB I’d presume you should be able to render
10 million at least.

Heve you tried turning on the Bitmap Pager in the rendering settings? I know it help when rendering larger scenes (pixel count), perhaps it might be usefule here.

SunnyC

are all the seats seperate parts? when poly counts get high we find collapsing them to editable mesh helps and attaching them to each other helps reduce the object count. It seems max has more of a problem with large object counts before large poly counts…

may help..

Shouldn’t those seats be instances of each other anyway?
Rendering with instanciate should make this possible.
Anyway, you should maybe delete all the seats not inside the camera view for each shot you need to do. There should be quite a few you can get rid of for this specific angle. Or have you already removed them?
The ones in this view can’t possibly count 3000?

Sunny- Where is the bitmap pager you are talking about?

I’d have to agree with Trixian. Perhaps you don’t need all 3000 seats in the view.

For the Bitmap Pager, go to Preferences, Rendering and then at the bottom right corner you’ll see a tick box for Bitmap Pager. I think it’s off by default. To be honest I’m not 100% sure what’s it’s function is, I just know that it helps sometimes. I’m sure someone else more knowledgeable on this forum can explain what’s purpose is and more importantly what settings to use.

Thanks for that Sunny!
I have a large scene that sometimes renders, but mostly crashes!

Vray is great, but not when it comes to large scenes.

Da Elf- what was your setup for your 40-50million poly scene?
