Hi folks,

Ken
The hdri is burning it out too much so the reflections and diffuse are too hot - stick some falloff on the material using either a falloff map or the fresnel tickbox in the vray material. have a look at the tutorials on http://www.cg-cars.com/ too - there’s a nice studio setup tut in there to give you a more balanced render.
Aston Martin - first post
I agree. Here’s another one with tweaked lighting and exposure control
needs some more falloff/ fresnel effect. it looks like plastic at the moment.
Yeah your carpaint needs work.
Check this one out. Its pretty good

And the front of the car is too pointy.. smooth that sucker out ![]()
tweaks
here’s another go with a different type of paint texture.
DaForce - don’t have permission to look at the posting on the CG-Cars forum, although I am registered there.
I live right next to the Aston Martin works, and the model is taken from pictures, drawings and measurements from the original cars.
thanks
Sorry, forgot to say. Thanks for the comments so far all …
I uploaded the material for you
www.apex.net.au/~daforce/vray/VrayBlendMTL_silver.rar
Might take abit of work to make it green, its a pretty complicate material
Can you show me a pic of the front of one of those cars, from a side-ish angle. I really think there is something modelled wrong at the front, just doesnt look right.
not a wasted weeked!
here’s the latest incarnation of the Aston. Ignore the model for a moment, I know there are problems with it, but that’s not what I want you to look at.
I’ve gone back to basics with the scene, and fiddled with the textures (thanks DaForce). I’m really quite happy with it as a “studio” look.
Let me know what you think.

Looking good, however I think the highlights should be strong, i.e. crank up the lights abit. Have you tried putting in a HDR reflection env to see how it looks?
Also to fix your IMG links at http:// to the begging of your image link.
Hmmm…
Here’s the latest - you can see from the number it’s taken a little while to get this looking right, but I think I’m finally there. Just got to get the brake discs looking right now.
Re: Hmmm…
I can’t see or get to the image. ![]()
Hmmm..
I can see it OK, I’ve removed the space from the name anyway. Have another go…
Looks pretty cool.
Is that a modification of that paint from cgcars?
Paint
Yes it is. I fiddled around with some of the settings.
I was having a crisis with the paint, and went back to how I have sprayed cars in the past (I’ve rebuilt a few Triumph sportscars, and currently have a GT6 convertible) so I went back to basics with it all.
The three layer paint texture is great for metallic surfaces, but I’ve tinkered with some of the graphs for the fallof, and also the IOR. Thanks for that Da Force.
Just got to get the model complete now - then I’m into the GT6 model!
Ahh excellent
great progress.
Keep with the updates too
why are your posts image tags not working for me? working here!
anyways disc breaks are never that colour, would have streaks and probably be slotted on a car like that.
also the tyres are too shiny and not black enough.
and the paint would look better if it had something to reflect.
come a long way though.
its also not a very good green, make it BRITISH RACING GREEN which is super dark and perfect for that car.
Try throwing your car into this scene: (Max 9)

replace the box with your car. even includes free goofy car shader! ![]()
See this thread for how it would generally look. Feel free to mess with it at will.

Hi Ken, that’s one very nice Aston ![]()
Somehow i like the previous version (vantage.jpg). I think the headlight is much better in chrome
Did you model the interior? would be better if we can see through a bit
Cheers

Hey have a look on that cgcars forum they have a bunch of free textures and bump maps for the brake rotors..etc.. would make them look a hell of a lot better ![]()
