Bump map issue on v1.05

When i’m adding bump map the diffuse map gets ridiculously dense. It happens on a few materials that i’ve added a bump map.
I’ve tried to group, explode, group>explode>regroup, nothing worked. It’s frustrating me, Please if anyone knows how to fix this…

dense?
maybe it’s me that’s dense, but I don’t understand.

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

I think he means the scale becomes tiny.

Haven’t come across this, do the proportions of your bump map bitmap match those of your diffuse texture bitmap? Could it be to do with the “using-anything-other-than-colour-wheel” bug?

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

If you’re just adding the bump map to a material that doesn’t have a map within the diffuse layer, then you’re probably not getting the UVs setup correctly. Since SU needs to have an image used within the object’s material to generate the proper UV coordinates, not having one will cause the UVs to get messed up and really be unusable. Just add an image, even if its just a small one of a solid color, to your sketchUp material, then resize it as you feel you need it, and the bump should be better placed once you do that.

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

Thanks Dalomar and Jackson, I wish the problem were that simple, but it not the case. Here images for explanation:

Notice the pavement’s material
Rendered with no bump map applied:
as you can see the diffuse map is there.

Now here’s what’s comes when i add the bump map (no other changes)
Now here the bump is correctly coordinates with SU UV, but the diffuse map is scaled down tremendously.

P.s- both of the maps are have the same RESOLUTION. so what can it be? ???

Send me the scene please

Hey Damien,
Did you received the pm with the link?

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

yea I did…sorry, its been a bit hectic around here…I took a look at this and couldn’t find any direct reason as to why this was happening. When I recreated the material in another situation (same maps, same parameters and everything), everything was lined up fine. I tried to explode those objects and that didn’t seam to help either. We’ll keep the scene around and see if there’s something repeatable here. This one is just weird because it works in almost every other situation.

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

I’m wondering. Is any of the groups or components that contain the pavement scaled? I have had some oddities in the past when the objects isn’t 1:1, but have some scaling transformation applied.

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

Hey Thom, it wasn’t that. Thanks for your help though.

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

Thanks Damien,
I’ve tried all: exploded, reset the texture, repositioned it, applied it to all faces, reversed them.
Here is the result:

I don’t know what was the specific action that helped, but something of what i’ve mentioned did or maybe few combined

Re: Bump map issue on v1.05

I’d be willing to be that reversing the faces might have had something to do with it for 2 reasons. First off, that was one of the things I didn’t do, and I didn’t find that exploding and moving the texture around really did anything. Secondly, since SU keeps two sets of texture coordinates (one for each side), its possible that for some reason the diffuse and bump maps were being read from different sizes.
