Hello V-Ray for SketchUp community. We wanted to take a moment to update everyone on our progress, and to also open our doors for more beta or wip testers. We are currently testing some changes that we’ve made lately, and if our last release indicates anything, it’s that we need more people testing this software. So If you feel up to the challenge, we invite you to come with us on a mighty bug hunt! Just respond to this thread, stating that you would like to help out, and we’ll add you to our testing group.
The majority of our changes are related to issues we’ve seen with certain materials, and material names. Materials appear to the major bug on our plate at the moment. We have received a number of example scene files, materials, and render options from a number of you, and we have been trying our best to analyze those scenes, and fix any bugs we can pinpoint. So far we are starting to get the impression that the material bugs are mostly fixed at this point. Please help prove us wrong! We don’t want any more nasty bugs hanging around after this patch. There are a few other fixes here and there, but materials have been the main source of the bugs we’ve seen on our forum, and in our bug tracker. We have recently found a couple other issues that are related to international language settings, which we are currently attempting to resolve.
We want this next patch to be a great one, so we hope all of you out there that missed out on our last beta test, will join us this time around.
You guys are in, congrats! We look forward to hearing some feedback from you in the near future.
Pinoy - Of course I read your posts silly, I responded at least once to both of those, hehe. So are you saying you don’t want to test 1.48.67 until it’s actually released and stable… or are you saying you would like to test that version, to help ensure that we have a stable release?
CAMIONERO - You can use a demo license, or you can use your existing license if you have one. The latest version can be obtained via the V-Ray for SketchUp Beta Testing forum which should be visible when you login (if you’re one of our testers). It’s at the very bottom of the main forum page.
STEELERS05 - You have been very verbose and polite about any issues you’ve come across, we would be glad to have you as one of our testers. Do keep in mind, that since this is in beta, you may want to be very careful when using it for commercial purposes. We actually don’t recommend using it for commercial purposes at all, but if you do choose to, please be sure to save backups and be aware that it is a beta version. That being said, welcome aboard!
thanks dken: I was planning on using SU 6 and the previous version of vray for any office projects…so thats why I may be limited with my contribution, but im gonna do my best to help. Did you happen to check out my thread in the “bugs” section? I listed several new issues and a more elaborate explanation of the previous one that started the thread. I am having a lot of fun and success with the new build on a project i am doing for fun on my down time…I am hitting some bumps a long the way, but the results are working out well…ill post some images as I build a larger collection.
Devin: Just e-mailed you my response. i am still testing vray.
Luckily not much work at the moment and trying
no to open skp. file with lots of maps/ large textures.
Otherwise enjoying rendering and experimenting materials.
Count me in for beta tester.
Cheers,
Pinoy
I would also like to join the team. I’m currently working on my thesis project in my final year of college and i’m going to do a lot of rendering for that… i think that would parallely help doing the beta testing.
I’m particularly interested in testing the file size bug which was mentioned somewhere here in this forum… it said that the file was quite big and vray was refusing to render the file… the frame buffer used to came in for a while and then used to vanish while the same file was being rendered properly by older 1.05.30 version of vray. Since i’m going to do every possible details for my thesis, i think file size is going to be really big and will be well suited for the bug testing.
hello … I wish I could help, I am a student of architecture, I use sketchup for about 5 years, and vray a couple of years now. I use Vray about 5 or 4 days a week about 3 or 4 hours per day.
