I thought putting a vrayedgestex in the opacity slot and unticking ‘one sided material’ in material options might do it but life is not that simple. I tried a double sided and vray2sided material with vrayedgestex on the front and a flat black colour in the opacity slot for the rear but that’s not doing it either. Anyone have any workable solutions?
Maybe a Front/Back map/material in opacity with an inverted wire map could work
Not too clear on what a front/back map material is, I’ve had a look at all the map and material options but don’t see it.
sorry my mistake, Im used to call it like in Corona.
In V-Ray its named 2Sided
It’s got a few issues but it might be workable, I’ll play around with it, cheers!
You can use a 2-sided material like I describe here. The front material has the vrayedgestex and the back material is fully transparent (opacity=black). Set the 2sided material translucency to black (not translucent at all).
You could also do it with a falloff map set to “Toward/Away”. Ideally you’d set the mix curve in the falloff map to control 50% front and 50% back but the mix curve graph doesn’t have numerical values so you’re just eyeballing it. Instead I adjusted the output curve set to 50/50 and piped that into a Mix map’s Mix Amount like this:
I think both of these options are available in 3.7 but it’s been a while. Let me know if you need more info.
Thank you, that’s great, I’ll play around with it and see what I get.
