Hi,
as title, i try to render a corona scene without converting, but fail…is vray 6 can render corona scene without converting?
Conversion is required, unfortunately.
I’m just testing out a freebie from modulat as they have nice stuff. (Freebie — Shop — Modelat).
But when I convert the chair the result is pretty shocking imo. Left original corona model, right the vray converted one:
Which is a shame as it means we would need to probably significantly redo most of their files if we want to use them as a clean vray file. Going through the file the stuff that stood out the most was: incorrect conversion of values (0.1x Iirc), very different response to the falloff map curve, displacement / bump values need to be changed. Displacement needed the vraydisplacementmod and one that took the most effort to try to get close to was the diffuse colourcorrection. Getting a similar contrast level was beyond me in the end, although I got close with the max colourcorrection and an output curve. The end result was probably 95% the same as the original.
Any tips to make this better or not have to spend a bunch of time just to get it to look like the original? Or is it something in their files that gave such a poor result when converting?
This is down to the unsupported Corona nodes and shading practices.
Unfortunately this is a recurring theme across render engines, and the only way to not incur in it would be to have 100% matched functionalities (highly unlikely. F.e. for the Corona CC map, a brightness of 0.0 produces a no-op, but it’s counter to canon, and we won’t be copying it. More complex, non-transferable cases are around every corner, whichever the engine.), or to follow a set of very strict guidelines that would work by adopting a minimum common denominator for used features (f.e. adhere to PBR standards without the use of funky nodes: one channel, one bitmap at 100% unfluence.).
This is a topic of very active resesearch, but the ways currently around arbitrary shading networks are few and far apart.
We’ll see what the future holds. ![]()
VRay can’t replace corona color correction map right now as there is no map that can produce the exact look of it in 3ds max . the converter will try to use the ColorCorrection map but it won’t be the same in most cases ( there is no contrast parameter, Green Magenta tint , temperature …etc)
so if Vray could support corona color correction map directly in future ,without converting that will solve the issue of this model .
for the time being, if you want the exact look then right click on the map and do “render map” then replace it inside the material before converting , just make sure to check the tiling and texture aspect ratio to avoid scaling mismatch later .
Update:
I’ve downloaded the model mentioned above and tried to render it without converting and it worked well as the material is simple .
then I’ve used the converter and as I’ve mentioned above the built in color correction couldn’t match, so I’ve replaced it with the original color correction ( vray will keep those after converting beside the material inside Slate editor) and surprisingly it rendered correctly!
@_Lele is the Corona Color Correct map officially - even partially- supported ?
After converted all corona light and working from morning until now, everything is smooth, but suddently this message “unable to create light from node corona light” shown in the VFB log, and 3ds max crash, i cannot render my scene, any solution for this?
My scene is almost, cannot start it again from zero, the scene is large
After some test, i can confirm that only IPR cannot start, normal render no problem
I know it’s paid, but this script is really the best option when converting from Corona to Vray.

It looks like scene corruption.
Your best bet is to merge it into a new one.
Thank you for the link
Yes, the print screen I post here is after merge into a scene, but no luck
for your info, the IPR is working if I start a blank scene, and create some simple objects and light.
I was thinking could it be a 3ds max problem?
I will try reinstalling 3ds max tomorrow, is that any way that I can reinstall 3ds max without uninstalling vray?
Mmmh, if it’s the same to you, pack me the scene and contents (textures, caches, etc.), and i’ll take a look.
Likely better than nuking Max (you’d need to reinstall V-Ray too, i think.).
your email, please
I will ask my senior for permission to send the file tomorrow ( I hope they can allow me to do that)
Consider that any material you send us (if you need an official channel, please open a ticket with support about this, and mention me and this thread.) is under implicit NDA (non-disclosure Agreement.), and if it is needed, we can sign a new one of your liking.
It boils down to your data being safe, and safely destroyed after use, with us. ![]()
Hello,
Vlado, Lele, with all my love, it has become so hard for me to understand why Vray does not offer its own VrayColorCorrect. Again and again there comes a moment when you could very well use that function. VrayColorCorrect is something we should have been able to have since years ago.
Kind regards
algato
Umh, no idea why that is, it looks like the unified login has issues?
I am also not sure. I have formatted my PC and re-install Windows 10 (previous use Windows 11), 3ds max and V-Ray, hopefully, this can solve the problem.
