Corona to Vray

Hey guys,

I was wondering since ChaosGroup now owns Corona whether a scene converter is available? I have just (stupidly) downloaded an asset with a lot of materials that are set up for corona and need to convert it ASAP.

Any help is much appreciated.

You can try V-Ray Scene Converter.

I believe that to convert from Corona to vray with the scene converter, you must have Corona installed. You can have only the free trial version installed and it will work.

yes, Corona should be installed

The universal material converter also will do the job.

If you install corona trial version so you can then use the scene vray converter that’s fine. One thing to consider that I did not realize before doing this. My experience - After converting all things corona to vray I then uninstalled Corona. I could not open the scene without re-installing Corona. So, even though all materials had been converted form Corona to vray and all other corona objects, lights etc had been deleted, the .max scene file still required that corona be installed or it would not open.

For proper convert Corona to V-Ray (materials, maps, lights, proxies, etc.) you can use V-RayMtl Converter: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/v-raymtl-converter
or here: MAXTools: V-RayMax Converter PRO

Corona can now render a Vray material right away without any conversion. Will we see the same functionality in Vray?

In your experience, how well does that work? Looks quite tempting.

was gonna ask this since this has been promised last year on D2 at some point.

what is the progress in this regards please?

Vlado is working on this, but is still a WIP and I can not tell when will be included in V-Ray.

You can check this video to see what he’s done to this point.
