color picker strangeness

This is probably a max issue but hey you guys are my go-to, so:

vraycolor map, go to color picker, set rgb vaules (8-bit-display) or HEX value based on reference from client

in this case:

a purple, rgb 48,8,123, hex #30087B

close color picker.

reopen color picker

color values have changed.

rgb 46, 0,123 hex #2E007B

the difference visually is small, but i really want to know why its messing with me.

I notice that too, hope to know is there any solution?

Which 3ds Max/ V-Ray version are you using? Does it happen in every color swatch? Does it happen when using f.e. Arnold?

i am using 3ds max 2023 and V-Ray 7 update 1

I can’t reproduce it. Does it happen in every scene?

I know its 2023, but I think this is all related: 3DS Max 2024 Color Picker - Common :: Off-topic - Chaos Forum to these issues we had with 2024: 3DS Max 2024 Color Picker not working with Vray Material - V-Ray for 3ds Max :: Issues - Chaos Forum

I just tested this in Max 2025 and when I input the 30087B HEX, close and reopen, for a very very brief moment you can see 2E007B in the hex inputbox before its corrected to 30087B again.

Here’s a recording, you can briefly see the slider adjust, and the number change. FYI it doesn’t matter if you use scene or display, the values briefly change in both cases.

As mentioned in the linked threads (and confirmed yet again by Yavor), V-Ray does not touch the color pickers, so it’s an Autodesk issue. According to the last few posts mentioned in this thread, it should be fixed as of 2024.2.1.

This is basically the fix Autodesk implemented.

Yea I know…“”“”“”" the fix “”“”“”"
