Competition Exterior

Re: Competition Exterior

Dear free agent, i have a favor to ask u. could you post the setting for exterior lighting? i had tried so many ways, but still don’t get a realistic rendering as u did, especially bout the lighting. hope u can help me.

Re: Competition Exterior

Yes, I had to resave the textures from tiff to png and extract the alpha channel to make a clipmap. The trees also had duplicate materials which I merged together to one. Once I had set up the tree I saved the vizmat, which was a linked material, so I could load it in any scene I wanted, ready to be used.

Re: Competition Exterior

Free Agent… your image looks great, do you have more of those for this project? at first i didn’t think it is purely sketchup, because of the trees.

Can you further explain the export process of the trees in to sketchup. in our test, the imported 3ds didn’t have the textures and mapping. we used 3dsmax 8 for the export of the XFR files.

Cheers

Re: Competition Exterior

brilliant work yet again!! great to see!!

Re: Competition Exterior

From xfrog, export directly to .3ds. You should then be able to import the files into SU with textures already applied.
Might be worth noting that in SU it looked like the textures had shifted, but rendering turned out fine anyway.

Re: Competition Exterior

hey, i remap the textures in c4d, then export to 3ds, then into sketchup, where the front
face of the leaf planes are mapped correctly but the back face are shifted or too small but dont worry because as soon as you apply the linked material TO THE FRONT FACE vray disregards whatever texture is on the back and translates through(by the way a handy tip for when you import a model from www.archive3d.com or a similar site and the models have a particular texture mapping but not on the reverse face, just add a blank clip map and the mapping on the front translates to the back… when you render of course :)…
there will a couple more renders coming from this project in the next couple of days
will keep you posted

heres a sketchup hidden geometry shot to demonstrate that there are no billboards in the scene all the trees were models, i avoid billboard as they dont give you the depth that the shadows of the leaves would create.

Re: Competition Exterior

i tried to upload my exterior settings but the 1kilobyte size folder is too big ??? sheesh so if anyone wants it just email me… in the sharing mood

Re: Competition Exterior

Great renders free agent! Maybe the glass might be some less ‘mirroring’ but thats nothing to talk about when looking at the overall result!

And indeed..the grass is really verry good. Which texture do you used and how?
Or do you gonna make a tutorial for us..would be great!

Re: Competition Exterior

CAn´t wait to see the Visopt and the tutorial. Keep the good job!

Re: Competition Exterior

I don’t really post comments…I just read the whole time and learn..

but this one…Freeagent I’m speechless…I’ve always looked at your post and most of
your work are very impressive!!

I will be waiting for the tutorial of this one..

Re: Competition Exterior

TUTORIAL!..TUTORIAL!..TUTORIAL!.. ;D
hehe we’ll all be waiting FA..

Re: Competition Exterior

wow, congratulations, such a great composition,

Re: Competition Exterior

that means it involves really a lot of time and dedication and money to buy all these softwares

Re: Competition Exterior

On Greenworks website it says that the DVD’s with trees and plants comes with various file formats, including 3ds. So if you only use the packages and don’t need to generate your own then there isn’t so much work. Just resave the tiff textures to png and apply the clipmaps in V-Ray. Once you’ve set the trees/plants you want to use, with v-ray linked materials, they are very easily reused. Just place the component and import the linked materials.

Re: Competition Exterior

whohoo.. you’ve got a good machine to do a render job..
so far away compare to mine like heaven and earth, mine is down along lower than yours, i still need to learn bout PS skill to TOM haha.. i have to forget bout rendering tree in a scene.

bytw please do some tuts on your grass.. i can’t hardly wait for that.. thanks

regards,
VD

Re: Competition Exterior

i think it’s to much wall
but everything so nice

Re: Competition Exterior

The render is beautiful, I love it. But my machine is so slow…

Re: Competition Exterior

Mr. Freeagent,

How do you save or export the trees after reducing the polygon from xfrogtune??

Theres only two option to export it: wavefront and VRML..and I tried saving it "save as’ and open it on c4d it says unknown format…

Please post quick tutorial…

Thanks freeagent

somebody please how to do clipmaps?? to remap materials.. I tried exporting xfrog trees to 3ds then .skp but ended up rendering the tree without the textures…I don’t know what to do…I’ve been experimenting it to resolve my problems for 2 1/2 hours…
Can someone please help me? I read this thread already but my render showed up the same…

Re: Competition Exterior

Xfrog exports textures as TIFF images. V-Ray doesn’t read that format. Resave the textures to PNG using PhotoShop or similar. If the TIFF uses an alpha channel extract that into a separate black&white image which you use for Transparency for the Diffuse layer in V-Ray.

Re: Competition Exterior

import the .obj into C4D rotate, scale, remap, export to 3ds, import into sketchup… done
