Cosmos Material maps hard to identify

Hello!

I usually use the diffuse map as a reference when rearranging the UVs, but when working on big scenes, it becomes quite hard to distinguish each material, since they come with a tag/identifier rather than the material map name.

For example:

In Cosmos: Metal Galvanized Rough 100 cm

In Blender (Material name): /Metal_Galvanized_Rough_100cm@mtl__1_5562 f0f8

Maps name: ace3ab29_Rough_8k_raw

This also makes searching for a map harder, e.g., if I want to use only one of the maps as a mask or something applied to other objects.

Is it possible for you guys to change this nomenclature into something more human-readable?

Thanks!

The materials can indeed have the same names as in Cosmos and it does make sense so I logged it. Not so sure about the textures though. Those are the names of the bitmaps in the materials that come from Cosmos and I have no idea how to name them better.

Isn’t it a matter of prefix change? Because their suffix already describes each map (e.g. Rough, Refl, Nrm, Albedo etc.)

Instead of:

ace3ab29_AN_Rot_8k_raw

ace3ab29_Nrm_8kraw

ace3ab29_Rough_Rot_8K_raw

It could be:
Metal_Galvanized_Rough_100cm_Rot_8k_raw

Metal_Galvanized_Rough_100cm_Nrm_8kraw

Metal_Galvanized_Rough_100cm_Rough_Rot_8K_raw

Yes, I suggested just that internally will see what we can do about it.

In the vray shader editor, can you select the texture map, F2 to rename it?

You can indeed, but it is not the best approach if you need to do it for every new project. I think the best option is to have the texture already renamed when you download it from cosmos

This was solved in the new release
