This thing is a beast! Other than double the vram to 16GB, how do you think it will perform vs. the RTX 2080 Max-Q? Similar or significantly faster? Anyone tried the Studio drivers vs. the gaming drivers to see if there is more stability for Autodesk Revit w/ Enscape?
It actually looks as if the Quadro RTX 5000 is quite a bit faster compared to the 2080 Max Q. It is, of course, also a lot more expensive, but this would definitely be a laptop more than suitable for Enscape.
(No experience regarding the Studio / Gaming drivers though, maybe someone else can also chime in.)
Unless you are bottlenecking on the VRAM I wouldn’t expect it to be faster; in my experience the Quadros are somewhat slower than their equivalent gaming counterparts. We have a Lenovo P53 with the RTX 5000 Max-Q in-house but I haven’t got my hands on it to test yet.
So you think it will be slower than the RTX 2080 Q? I’d like a little more stability, so if it’s about on par with the mobile 2080, or even faster than the 1080 Q I’d take that!
Hard to say… my guess would be the 2080Q will be a little faster, but the service/reliability from Dell/Lenovo/HP on a Quadro laptop will be better. I usually run some OpenGL benchmarks (Unigine) on our new systems and had some issues with our P53/RTX 5000 - it wouldn’t finish the benchmarks, but we may not have all the right drivers loaded yet. Needs more TLC to get an answer. I think performance could vary quite a bit between models and will depend on the manufacturer’s cooling solution.
It has a “full” mobile 2080 - beats the MaxQ by a good margin. It isn’t a small laptop by any means, but that also allows for better cooling. If you don’t mind the size it is by far the best value/performance option out there right now imho.
I’m willing to sacrifice some performance for a smaller more portable setup - something you can throw in your bag for any type of meeting. 17" is too big, and even 15" gaming laptops over 5 lbs are not what I would consider easily portable.
