So now we have a simple benchmark scene that can be used to compare different GPUs - you can find the scene plus some results in this thread: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbulletin/showthread.php?52400-test-scene

Here is a chart of the results so far:

I will be updating this as more results become available. An interesting fact is that the 580 card with the newest drivers is exactly as fast as the 480 with the older drivers…

Briliant thanx !

ATI results are not true, I tested my 5870 and it was i thing maybe 12 minutes, i will sent screenshot later
Ok
I don’t have 5870, so I haven’t tested it. Also, please post the results in the other thread here: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbulletin/showthread.php?52400-test-scene

Maybe I can try old driver with GeForce GTX 580. I think its not possible to 480 and 580 be the same.
I updated the chart in the second post with some of the more recent results.

Vlado
Thanks you to make me the great winner !! ( joking )
i notice a big difference between 280 and 580 !!
14min > 3minutes !! 280 isn’t an old card !
Hehe, yes for the time being the first place is yours ![]()
I also added some new results for Radeon 5970 and Radeon 6970; they are not too bad with the latest drivers.

Vlado, what about using Radeon and Geforce mixed? I believe you mentioned that was a future possibility.
what i always wanted to ask… how important is the memory size of the gfx board for vray? for example with this demo scene, is there a difference between a 1gb gtx 460 or gtx 560 and their 2gb siblings measureable? we have a gainward 2gb gtx 460 card here and with the newest 270.61 drivers (which are supposed to be somewhat slower than some older drivers i read) it renders the scene in 6:32min (core overclocked from default 700 to 800mhz), so it seems about the same speed as other similar models in the chart above. but as we don´t have any other cards around besides old gtx 260 models i can´t really compare it.
i guess it depends on the memory usage of a certain scene? any buying advices concerning this? we deal mostly with archviz scenes. for example is a gtx 560 ti 2gb worth the price difference to the normal 1gb models? seems to me that in this case i would rather shell out some euros more and get a 570 instead which renders much faster according to the chart…
best regards,
christoph.
RAM is important for scene size…if it fits, it renders. Speed is determined by the amount of cores you have, as well as the clock speed of the GPU. Add more GPUs/boards for more speed, but make sure you have enough RAM on each one for your scene as each GPU has to load the entire scene. Earlier drivers seem to be somewhat faster than later ones. We’re hoping that changes…

wow my geforce 8800 is piece of junk:)
how do you fit 9x gtx 580’s into a computer? ![]()
so you´re running maya on a bootcamped 2010 macpro? is there a mac version of the 580 around? or do you use a pc version? because I have an 8 core here and would love to use it instead of my pc…
lol! I was wondering the same thing
but then I noticed it says (DR) in the chart. So it’s a DR setup/test, not all in one computer.
yes 9x 580 is in DR mode.
I have 6x 580 plugged on my workstation , i’ve hear that 7 or more inside 1 box will slow down the rendering . certainly a motherboard data flow issue.
two gtx 580 each 3gb: 1:22 to finish 512 samples/pixels - without textures though…
two gtx 580 + one 5gtx 580 DR: 57,3sec to finish 528 s/p - again no textures
