is it possible to create and share a 3ds max scene (with interior and exterior lighting) to test our gpus?
so we could have a ranking, now that also ati gpus seem to work.
it would be easier to buy a gpu… ![]()
Yep, I will post one a bit later today.
Best regards,
Vlado
Here you go: Chaos: Industry-leading design and visualization software The scene is set to render 500 samples per pixel (actually it will do 512). The idea is to see how long it will take to achieve these 512 samples per pixel.
With the GeForce 295 and 260.99 drivers that I have on my machine now, it takes 8m 50s (see attachment).
I guess it can be used for benchmarking CPUs as well, by switching to the CPU engine.
A .vrscene package is available here (includes textures): Chaos: Industry-leading design and visualization software
To run it with the GPU engine, pass the option -rtengine=3 to V-Ray Standalone.

GeForce GTX 480 with 258.96 drivers: 3m 8s
Can you put the numbers in the message too (e.g. 3m 25.9s) just in case the images get lost?
Best regards,
Vlado
gpu 1 goes from 50% to 99% during rendering
gpu 2 is fixed at 99%
it could be better
GeForce GTX 480 with 260.99 drivers: 3m 43s
So you are right that the new drivers are slower, even with one GPU.
Best regards,
Vlado
Some more tests:
Tesla C2050, 260.99 driver: 4m 53s
Tesla C2050, 258.96 driver: 4m 16s
2 x Tesla C2050, 260.99 driver: 2m 27s
2 x Tesla C2050, 258.96 driver: 2m 9s
GeForce GTX 480 + 2 x Tesla C2050, 260.99 driver: 1m 29s
GeForce GTX 480 + 2 x Tesla C2050, 258.96 driver: 1m 18s
Best regards,
Vlado
2 gtx 460 2gb 800mhz core 1600mhz shaders 2ghz ram
258.96 driver
but now lowering ray bundle size to 128 and rays per pixel to 4 makes my gpus work 99%
so, little gain from 3m 25s to 3m 14s
0.5 x Radeon HD 5970 (only one GPU working), 10.12 driver: 18m 28s. This is an extrapolated result from 128 samples per pixel (4m 37s), didn’t wait for all the 512 samples. If both the GPUs were working, the card would be slightly slower than the GeForce 295.
Best regards,
Vlado
Wow thats slow… isnt 5970 the top model from 5xxxseries? O.o
Not sure if the 5980 isn’t better even though it’s a single card. It would be interesting to see the 6000 series. It will have to wait a bit though, they don’t have them here yet…

Vlado
GTX 470 - 4m41,8s with the 260.99 drivers
After some OC of the videocard got down to 4m21,4s
factory clocked 2x GTX 470s - 3m 5s
Although, I don’t have any of the texture files. Did I miss that?
x1 GeForce GTX 460 (Core clock 700 MHz)
Driver: 260.99
vmem: 2048 MB
7m 39.0s
That’s it.
You’d need the texture files otherwise it’s not a fair comparison… they are standard maps that come with 3ds Max.
Best regards,
Vlado
Another result, single Geforce GTX 470 with factory settings, 4m 4.3s.
Driver version: 257.21
Vlado, you could set the scene again?
I can not open. I get an error message: “File Open Failed”
I am working with the 2009 64-bit version.
Greetings.
Same here on 2009. I just assumed it’s a newer version ![]()
