Wondering if it’s actually helpful.
Every project!
Can I ask what version of max/vray you are currently using?
I am on MAX 2024
Well, maybe it works but I wouldn’t be convinced by the clearly unequal example.
Exhibit A has fur enabled, plus something undefined on the box with lines…I mean, what is that exactly?
So Exhibit B is of course different and I discount it as a valid test.
No info is given, neither the test scene. I would approach with caution if I were you ![]()
Well it’s by Colin Senner, who is quite trustworthy but the examples are for Vray 2.2 so not sure if it’s still updated. And nowhere does it say what it exactly does. I wouldn’t count that much on it. Is there a reason why you need this?
It warns of possible issues and often finds things I might have overlooked, such as materials with MAX displacement that serve no purpose, extra high reflection values, and hidden AD materials.
This is an alternative (free)
I subscribe to their whole suite of script. Awesome stuff!
After 4 years subscription I think it’s worth has quite diminished. Lot’s of promises, no innovations. Just a pack of already free available scripts in one place for convenient access. I can’t see it’s value anymore.
I agree somewhat, until you upgrade MAX, and you have to wait days/weeks for updated scripts, if ever. I upgraded to MAX 2025, installed their scripts, and was up and running. I do agree that they need to add new things, which I don’t think they ever have done. You pay to be able to use it. Like MAX 2025, there is no reason to upgrade from 2024, but we still pay the subscription.
True…but I never upgrade within (at least) a year of release, mostly because I’ve had lots of issues with multiyear projects using new plugin- and/or Max-versions. I can’t believe people being happy with all this subscription “madness” which “forces” you to keep all your apps uptodate. It only gives me headaches. Last week I had to install VRay5/ForestPro6 simply because I needed to render a view from an old project needing 80GB RAM, which could not render with VRay6/FP8 within 128GB RAM. Still have to figure out the exact reasons, but that takes TIME. Most plugins/scripts I have are perpetual with very excellent and fast support, but more importantly they are constantly innovating. When paying subscription, that’s the least I would expect.
Subs are an increasing scam for the majority of things. It’s a bandwagon cash-cow approach that does little to drive development imo.
I expect ever more devious methods of driving us to pay more and more for less and less ![]()
There…now I feel better ![]()
Once in a while you just have to…
I have been in this business for over 30 years and I have always been looking forward to (paying) upgrades just to have these new features that would make my life easier and more fun. In 3dsMax (and most of its addons) this is just sweet memories…I use it for all my paying work, but that’s it. Recently the fun has mostly been coming from apps like Blender and Unreal where people still know what real innovation is. It’s all more technical and chaotic, but exciting:p
Yes, but we still pay the fee even if we don’t upgrade. I installed MAX 2025, but I have not used it yet. There is almost no reason to move to MAX 2025, other than hoping little things are fixed that are issues in earlier releases.
I have upgraded every single release of Max, but have been using v2009 until v2018. Tried v2011 and 2015 inbetween but never was quite happy with them.
What version are you using now? I think AD started the whole subscription-based software when it went to court when the guy tried to sell his copy.
Still on 2021! Tried 2024, but it wasn’t worth subs…even indie!
