Insta-crash on VrayOSLMtl using carbon.osl from VRay support docs

Hi,

Summary: When I try to create the carbon.osl OSL Mtl from the V-Ray support docs, it causes a 10 second freeze of 3DS Max and then a hard crash.

Details:

Windows 8.1 Pro
3DS Max 2015 (no service packs)
V-Ray 3.10.03 (downloaded today as the current public release.)

I am following the instructions on this page here:

The reproduction steps are:

1. Create a new scene.
2. Create a sphere.
3. Create a V-Ray spot/omni light.
3. Create a V-Ray OSL Mtl in the mini Material editor view.
4. Set as the shader file for the OSL Mtl as carbon.osl text that is listed in the above Doc page. (I just cut and pasted it from the above Doc page.)
5. 3DS Max 2015 (no SPs installed) will pause for a few seconds and then crash.

Video here of my reproduction steps:

Carbon.OSL attached as a *.txt file.

Best regards,
Ben Houston
carbon.osl.txt (1.31 KB)

With further testing I’ve noticed that VRayGLSLMtl/Tex is likely going to meet my needs and it seems to work.

So this is in no way a blocker for me. I’m just going to switch from OSL to GLSL.

Best regards,
-ben

Hm, it does crash indeed - will look into it.

Best regards,
