Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

ohh and one last thing, changing the parameters of displacement to .04 on edge lenght, and 1000 on subd, you can make something like this, just try to make a surface with sandbox, and thats all… ;), remember that making the surface a group its important but its not all about that, parameters are the next most important step…

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

My God Teo, I’m so proud of you! You know why…Thanks for this, and take care of you!
Regards

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

thanks teo for sharing this.. i know a lot of people will benefit for this. ;D
i will try the concept of using pillow. i like the idea… and also could you explain the advantage of using bump and displacement at the same time. i have not tried this approach, but from your result its actually good.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Teo, can you please share the pillow model, with the texture applied, to check the UV#s as well?

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Teofas

Great tutorial. Very clear - even I can understand it. This has to be the definative displacement tut!!

Thanks

David

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Thank you Teofas, very clear tutorial.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

hi, thx for your words. i apreciate it.

Stef thx brother, your words are always apreciated, here you have the scene model link http://rapidshare.com/files/162486028/rug.skp. see ya.

Nomer, thx bro, about the bump and displacement, i make it this way cause of some users of a 3dmax forum that make it this way, but maybe a moderator can give us some advice about this, i think that without the bump it also works fine, but i apply the bump and displacement just for no reason at all, hehehe (maybe i should edit that part of the tutorial ;D)

David.thx for your words sir, [quote="dcauldwell "]

40th, thx you too for your reply.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

well!! often unconventional approach leads to discovery. we know we have all the cards with vray to be more exploratory. thats is why the artistic and creative opportunity with this soft is endless. thaks btw for that skp… i will also try to look at the scaling technique that you have shared.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Great Tut. Much appreciation

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

what a fantastic tutorial!

teofas can you share your visopt settings? thank you!!

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

dylan: if you are interested i uploaded my render settings in the download section..hope it helps.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Many thanks Teofas,

I was wondering why my displacements would not work. You have saved me a lot of time and effort. Just thought I would add this link to the CrazyBump site. The demo map maker is a thing of beauty and simplicity when it comes to generating Bumps and Displacements and other things I don’t know what are for. It will save you time faffing in Photoshop.

Look forward to more of your techniques in the future.

best wishes

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

hi octavalent, thx for your comments, and for the link, ill check it out…im planing on making a nice grass tutorial but i have some work right now…happy this tutorial help out, like i said we all recived a lot from this forum, and we need to give from what we know.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Hi Teo,
I’m new here and just bought VRay. I’ve tried your tutorial but I don’t quite understand how to link the texture? Can you help?
Jeff

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

hi jeff, do you mean make it a linked material? if thats your question, just right click on the texture on your model and select -vray for sketchup-crate material-vraylinkedmtl. hope this answer your question…remember if you are new to be patient with this software, see ya.

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Nice Job, thanks for the tutorial Teo!
Does anyone know if this is still applicable, as it is, with vray 1.5?
As for crazybump, I did try it, interesting program, but it is useful for all those who are making game environments.
When you create a map, you get all these additional maps like bump, displacement (which btw it never produced real grass, that’s the reason I tried the program in the first place), but you get also stuff like Occlusion map, which I have no idea what to do with that!
Still I like the GUI, something that vray software programmers should consider for their next version !

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Hello again Teo,
I right clicked on the material in SU but I don’t have Vray for SU option showing. Am I clicking in the wrong area? Do I click in the material toolbar area or on the model that has the texture on it?
Thx, Jeff

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

Teo

This is a great tutorial. I practically suck with displacement so this should help me a lot…

I will give it a try, thank you again for the tut

Re: Lets make a RUG!!! (tutorial for begginers)

hi karamuza i dont know if it apply to new version cause i work with old one.

jeff: click in the face of the model.

madmax: thx bro, it took me 5 month to make displacement work, as a matter of fact i stop trying, till someone told me about grouping the faces to be displace, i did this tutorial cause i really dont wnat people to feel like i did when i was a begginer, so ill be happy if it help, hope that you can post your results, and they work for you,see ya!!
