I used michas settings alot, gotta say im a fan of the starterkit, but latly a few rendering didnt turn out right. I found these settings that works great, but the render time i sooooo long. Whats wrong with em? I tried experementing but i didnt help. Here they are.. some tips would be great..
I would enable “use for glossy rays” at the LC, set secondary engine multiplier 0.8 and set noise level at 0.015 for daily use. Reflection max depth 10 is quite high, try 2 or 3 and set it higher if you need it only. Also color mapping “reinhard” is my favourit, burn 0.8.
I looks like you use a DualCore? Try to get a cheap quadcore and overclock it at 3GHz and more.
I just got myself a setup like that. I bought an Q9540, originally 2.66GHz from a co-worker, only a few months old. Got it overclocked to 3.3GHz, only limited by my RAM. But still a very nice piece of hardware to render with.
No these were some other ones, i used your frequetly, i got some wierd shadow problems. It looked like sandpaper, and like, cracked black color.
Thanks alot, ill make the adjustments!
yea! Im a hardcore laptop fan, working everywere. when they make a quad for laps, will be the end of the little social life i got left =)
again thanks alot
Other speed hints - try to avoid to many lights and try to use emitter material instead (but not for small intensiv point lights, because the problems by the random GI sampling).
Also, if you use arealights, than enable “store with IrrMap”. Most I use 16 subdivs for light shadows.
Shadow problems - if you post some images we can look on it. Could be a qustion of sampling.
Sorry for the delay!
The settings i posted didnt work that good. So im back to your basic settings Micha. Here are the ones i got from your posts
and tuts. Looks allright dont it?
Like i first said, my renderings is getting worse. I dont know why.. maybe i set up the wrong scenes and lightning. I useally make 4 walls with windows, roof and a floor. Doesnt help that much..here are two exemples of messed up renderings.
I don’t understand the example image, but my setup would be:
* hidden lights off (or you need it)
* IM max rate -1 for finer details 0 (less speed)
* LC sample size could be smaller like 0.01 or less
* LC → enable use for glossy rays for speed up
Slow render speed? Maybe you have duplicated objects in your scene, most a problem for glass/transparent materials.
