- Love the new icons on the outliner, they really cool.
-Still missing having a render view that select cameras and creates a snapshot.
-Need a way to save the render elements config, in the same way I can save v-ray render settings ( thats is really import )
I have tons of problems getting Rt to work on my mac, 90% of the times I get - host is not available error message
I always end up not using it… that slows my workflow.
- Every time i use cad data, like everyone has already written on the forum, it comes with a lot of the normal wrong, and to V-ray they are very import and to me also so I dont have to render 2 faces, but i could thing a method the generally overwrite and say that I want the whole scene to be double sided.
Even using materials with the override wasn’t working.
My surprise was to notice v-ray was the only one that I tried that cared for the normal direction, renderman, arnold and corona ( all for maya ) rendered the data fine without any teak.
Is is something I have to tick on settings, that forces 2 sided geo ?

V-ray Rt viewport is great but i would prefer something more like this ( in terms of what is rendering and looking at elements )https://vimeo.com/113739217We will not be doing this for the time being, I’m afraid. Maybe later on.

It sounds more like a bug that needs to be fixed.
“-Still missing having a render view that select cameras and creates a snapshot.”
Yes indeed. A rightclickable Teapot (Renderbutton) which shows all Cameras would be nice. Right now, I alwas have to have the maya renderview open (shrinked to the buttonbar)
Click on the save button under in render elements tab, after get your saved renderelements in reference, check “use reference” in render elements tab.
You will have same render elements for every scene, just override every time your references if you want to update. Easy.
Hi Vlado.
About Using RT on my mac config.
I have a quadro 4000 2gb and a GTX 760 4GB, and when using rt
90% of the time i get this error
// Warning: line 1: Render host graphics-06.visualplayground.co (127.0.0.1:20207) is not responding
Using either cpu/gpu/cuda
current core 3.15.01/ version 3.05.04
but even on the locked cpu version I was getting the same error.
mac os 10.9.5 intel xeon 2x2.66 6 core , 48 gb ram
Can you tell us what version of Maya are you using?
Which V-Ray for Maya revision are you running (it is printed in the log when you start Maya from the command line/terminal)?
And also is it possible to start V-Ray standalone in server mode manually?
Do you have vray-slave registered as a service?
Another idea for 2016:
While optimizing my workflow in the new hypershadewindow of maya 2016, I would find it most useful to give the possibility to dock the vfb into the hypershadewindow. Right now, I have to first dock the maya renderview and then change the panel of the renderview to replace it with the vfb. Unfortunately I have to do that every time maya is started.
(And a v-ray-RT-button in the vfb would be nice too )
You can start Maya with output from a terminal, using the following command:
/Applications/Autodesk/maya2015/Maya.app/Contents/MacOS/Maya
This way the terminal will act as an Output Window for Maya and all messages will be printed there, including VRay revision.
But vraymaterials support in viewport 2.0 would be awesome in V-Ray 3 and Maya 2015+. Currently it is pretty basic and would be nice to have 2dfilenode texture scaling that worked properly, hi res textures and projection mapping support like lambert, phone etc..
There’s almost next to zero documentation on Viewport 2.0, so we don’t really know how to do things there; Autodesk doesn’t seem to be too willing to explain anything. Plus, it’s gone through so many revisions now in each Maya release that I prefer if we just focus on the renderer.
There is no way to make this happen, except using the Autodesk new VP 2.0 API, since Autodesk seems to have abounded the previous one. All these issues you are pointing out are not ours. We tell Maya to give us a texture, and this is what we get. Moving to the new API will cause 2 new issues - another big chunk of code for yet another VP 2.0 API iteration to maintain, and you will loose the VRay lights support, since this new API doesn’t support custom lights. Like Vlado said, there is no point to loose more time trying to catch up with Autodesk, at least until they provide finally an API that does everything right.
I understand, thanks for explaining the issue. I don’t mean my post to come off as complaining, I did not understand there was such a complexity to this.
