Some recent work

It’s been a while since I have posted anything on here because the standard on this forum is so high, but here are some images I have been working on recently.

Comments and suggestions welcomed.

Please note that I am not responsible for the architecture or interior “design” decisions…just the coloured pixels.

Really nice renders there mate

That car is a little blown out in the last shot tho.
How did you do your trees? They seem quite good.
Reasonable render time with them in the shot?

Really nice images you should definitely post more often nothing wrong with the standard of these images.

Cheers
TD

 you are a master!

The interiors are very good but the exteriors look like photos.

the trees are pefect…are they models or bitmaps?

BTW can you show the light settings of the sencond exteriors? (color mapping, first and second bounce, sky and sun intensity)

thanx and congratulations

fabrizio

Stunning work with great attention to detail in modelling, lighting and texturing. You really nailed the lighting for the dusk setting in the first image. Please share your work with us more often!

Re: Some recent work

You must be kidding mate, I think most people have done your tutorials and seen your work. Lovely stuff!

Awesome stuff - Vu You must be joking about your images not measuring up. I think them to be the ideal to shoot for.

I’m still working on that smirk project you helped me out with, and awaiting payment for the pedestrian bridge. Thanks again.

Great stuff - what trees are you using? I have Onyx trees and am very happy with them. Just don’t get enough time to experiment, as usual.

Hope things are well with U and the fam.

Regards Peter.

onyx trees…

how do you set up your vray materials for the trees? I havent figured out how they work so far.

the exterior skyscraper shot and the second interior are both absolutely perfect. there is always something to nitpick on most renderings, but i seriously cant see any in those two.

great job, you earned your paycheck for sure.

I really like the HiRise, glass is perfect, the others are great too!

wow, impressive, the sofa material is marvelous, I buy that shader
congratulations

one regret though, on the second image, the pure white near the kitchen “chairs” is blowed out too much

the firstimage is absolutely marvelous. No others crits except the blowed out car on the exterior

The first one is AMAZING, wonderful work, one of the best in this forum! There are some flaws on the 6th - 10th floors of the left part of the image, but they are very minor things.

Excellent work, mood and execution.

really excellent work!

i love everything about the first image! 8)

car looks slightly blown-out as already mentioned, but apart from that, nothing to crit at all!

i love the highrise. its very realistic. i was wondering if the windows that are lit are just self illuminated

Thanks for all the responses guys.
Yeah, the car is blown out, so am going to fix that when I get a moment.

DaForce: Trees are Tree Storm. Lots of polygons but VRay seems to have chewed through them. Although I rendered the vegetation in a separate pass to get quicker rendertimes.

Peter: sorry to hear you’re still working on the bridge. Hope you get paid soon.

siliconbauhaus: Tree Storm has automatic UV assignment. You just need to check the parts you want to include UVs and it’s there. Give it a go.

archcanvas: Yeah I see those light leaks. Well spotted. Thanks for pointing them out.

Da_elf: Windows are lit in this instance with VRay lights behind, but could have also used VRayLight Material.
Normal self-illum doesn’t give you as much control over light colour or intensity

Thanks again everyone.

that first image is awesome - well done!
one small crit for the interiors - the tile grout looks as though it could use some more definition - it looks quite flat close up.
keep up the good work!

The first is definitly the best…

Nice renderwork!

Your first exterior really does look like a photo although After looking for a while I wasnt sure if the interior lights were casting shadows? The colour of the lights inside and the colour of the external walls and glass are perfect!

I’m guessing a lot of people have struggled with trying to get this kind of look from their evening shots so if you ever feel like doing another tutorial it would be hugely appreciated. I started learning vray based on your older tutorials which are excellent

We just bought Treestorm last week and your tip about ticking the UV box for the leaf/branch settings allows the materials to be converted to vray materials with textures rather than being stuck to the vertex colours which is very handy. I’ve managed to render some trees out in a test scene with just the vray material conversion and they have come out great but the majority seem better when you tick the UV box right?

for the interiors the carpet displacement, fabric on the couches and slightly mottled look to the wall render are what stand out to me as making these images very good

For the last exterior I was wondering if you had painted a grass texture including the dead patches around the trees for the whole area and then used the one displacement map for all? or is the grass etc done in post.

It seems that most of this is done entirely in vray though so great results!

mcphep - not sure what you mean by definition but perhaps a grout texture would value add.

paulison - I’ll consider doing another tutorial once VRay 1.5 is released.
