Since I’ve been using Enscape I don’t know if I’ve ever done this test, so I don’t know if it’s a bug or a feature of Enscape. I’m asking for clarification.
I have a project on Sketchup that contains several scenes. Some have active sections, others don’t. Some have hidden objects, others have hidden tags etc. I have 3 different visual setting presets assigned to each of the scenes in the project.
Now, as long as I select the single scene everything is fine. Sketchup shows the possible section, hides the objects etc, and Enscape faithfully follows the settings. If I render a screenshot everything is perfect.
The problem arises if I try to obtain the same images through a batch rendering process. In that case Enscape does not update the sections, does not hide the objects and simply uses the correct visual setting set for the scene.
I imagine that, for some reason, the batch render no longer asks Sketchup what the differences are between scene and scene and simply hopes that nothing has changed. I guess it’s for speed and not having to reload the scene every time, but this translates (for me) into more time, having to do everything by hand.
Thanks
Mirko
I use version 4.3.0.1189 on Sketchup pro 2024
Not sure I agree with the explanation above. I have exactly the setup of what @happymilk_2 describes… During batch render I can get hidden objects to appear or disappear based on scene selection. I can sometimes get section cuts to appear or disappear when linked to a scene in batch render. Though I’m not sure what happens sometimes when the section cut just wont engage during batch render. It is file dependent. I think it comes down to how the original section cut is setup but I have not figured out the exact work around yet. Skp 2024.
Hi @RYAN_FERNANDEZ
In my previous setups I often used tags to hide objects. And everything was fine.
This time I had to use a combination of different sections from scene to scene, objects that appeared and disappeared and some visual settings related to the scene.
Rendering one view at a time did not create problems. Enscape aligned perfectly with the conditions of the scene by sectioning and hiding where it should.
The problem was the batch. I do not know if the scene was more “complex” than other times or if there were too many variations between one scene and the next. The fact is that switching from a scene without a section to one with an active section meant that the room in the rendering was not sectioned. Same goes for hidden objects that actually appeared where they were not supposed to.
I repeat: Enscape correctly intercepts all the variations from scene to scene. But not when it is in batch rendering. I imagine because, to save time, it does not “ask” Sketchup for any possible variations.
Its a bug. I run my models the same way. multiple views, birdseye and plan view. sometimes the section cuts work during batch rendering and sometimes they don’t. I think the error is created when the section cut scene is created with enscape turned on? Im not 100% on that yet but I definitely have working models with multiple section cuts and models that dont work with multiple section cuts.
I still have this issue. Is anyone at enscape looking at this?
Hi @happymilk_2 and @joshua_tays , thank you for your input. We would like to investigate this further, as we were unable to reproduce the behavior described here when testing with the latest version of Enscape (in combination with SU 2025), which can be downloaded here.
That said, this may still be project-specific, so if you are already using the latest release and the issue is still occurring, it would be very helpful if you could share the corresponding project file with us.
If either of you would be open to sharing the affected project, please let me know, and we can continue troubleshooting from there. Even better, feel free to simply send me a dedicated direct message via this forum with a link to download said project for our developers.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Thanks Demian,
I opened a support case and shared the file straight away, came here to see if I was alone with the issue, and if there were any known workarounds (other than sitting at my desk for hours manually rendering, LOL). It might also be useful to test in SU26. I know the thread is a little bit older, but problem is persisting in 26 for me, wondering if there is something that had been resolved in 25 that is now an issue in 26.
FWIW - this morning was able to batch a handful of views successfully. A few hours later, after a fresh restart of my entire machine, and am back to the same issues. I understand that’s not likely entirely helpful from a troubleshooting standpoint, but, it’s a datapoint.
Thank you again for your help.
