Since the 3DS MAX 20114 SP1 breaks MAX in Windows XP, how do you uninstall a service pack? it’s not an installed program, or at least it’s not in the list.
found it! I had to click 'Show Updates".
How did you get Max base installed in the 1st place on XP?
This page says only Win8 and Win7 is supported:

I installed it, and I didn’t have any issues; until I installed the service pack. My main machine is Win7, but my slaves are running XP.[quote=“Morne, username:Morne”]

All 7 of my render nodes are running win xp. Why would they do something like this for a render node? That can add up to quite a bit of money for even a small farm like mine.
5 machines at $199.00 a pop. It’s going to cost me a grand![quote=“TRGraphics, username:TRGraphics”]

over on cgtalk some people tried switching to nitrous directx 9 mode, still same result - it doesnt work
no news yet on trying opengl…
Hmm pretty sure I’ve had it running on Nitrous DX9 mode at one point. Will check when this render is completed.
Win 8-64 OEM is $99
you need pro to join a domain, which I need to do.[quote=“flino2004, username:flino2004”]

I also have 5 machines plus main and laptop and I don’t use domain… Why you need to use it ? I’m curious about it, maybe I would need it if I know a good reason.
I am on a corporate network, which requires me to log into a domain, which requires Windows 8 Pro. Other than that, there are a few other differences.
Somebody at cgtalk posted this:
"Hi
I think the big Problem comes from MircoSoft, that give no advice of Win XP any more, no DirectX 10, 11 or higher for WinXP.
To work with WinXP as Slave, need you a Master of Win7 or Win8. Install the Service Pack 1 on the Master, and copy the /NVIDIA directory to the slaves ( override the old mental ray). Now can you use both Win7 ( Master) and WinXP (slaves).
PS: Autodesk must fix the installer of NetWork Version, because this don´t need DirectX.

So far nobody has confirmed if copying the NVidia folder works or not
