V-ray material window problem

I’m new in vray
I have a problem with v-ray and max5.
When I open material editor and chose vraymtl ’ i can’t see my material in the smal window, just black ball. How to fix it help pls

You have to choose vray as your render engine instead of scanline or mental ray for the materials to show up in the material editor.

Hi,

I have the same problem as what Chrissm had.
I tried what Tony suggested, but what I can see in the material editor is still a black ball.
This happens when I use Max R5, and it is fine with Max R6.
Can anyone tell me the trick?

In max 5 you have to open the material editor options and select the current renderer instead of scanline.
