This is the first seen I have been using Viz 2006 with and it has been plagued with problems.
Now it seems sometimes it decides to render with the maps and sometimes not. Doesn’t seem to matter whether the Vray VFB is on or not, although when I do turn on Vray VFB it HANGS for a few seconds each time I move, zoom, close, whatever.
Here is a small render where it shows the bitmap properly. Its a mask map of an old wood board…
And 5 seconds later, I hit the render button again, and voila, its gone!
I installed the Max 7 version of Vray, but I will try the Max 6 version just in case.
The max6 and max7 versions are exactly the same… Another user complained about the same problem; according to him this did not happen with the 1.46.15 build (which is strange, because they treat bitmaps in the same way). However, it may also be related to the new UVW-mapping stuff that was added in VIZ 2006.
I just did a full rendering of an elevation at 3400 pixels wide - same project.
Now some of the buckets have rendered with the maps and some without. No rhyme or reason to it. I’m not using DR, or accessing maps through a network server. Its all local.
I’m the other user Vlado mentioned above. I have had the same problems with VIZ 2006 + 1.47.02. Sometimes it renders perfectly other times some buckets don’t render. As you said no rhyme or reason. When I change back to 1.46.15 there are no problems. Scene’s render OK.
That’s the solution for me for the moment.
I’m wondering if the Multi/Sub Material problem has anything to do with the Revit import option. I think the way the Multi/Sub materials may have changed a little to incorporate the importing of a Revit model. I saw something in the new features documentation somewhere. Maybe something to do with this?..
It seems that it’s only happening with VIZ. I wonder if Max has the Revit import option, any Max users know?
Just a thought.
It might be causing it, but I don’t think so. I have been use the revit import option in viz 2005 via an installed plug-in availible to revit users. It works fine here with vray 1.46.XX to 1.46.15. Viz 2006 simply ships with the same plug-in pre-installed (I think). So that shouldn’t be the issue, but you never know. Max does have the revit plug-in as well. I’ve been scared iff using Viz 2006 because of all these bugs.
It might be interesting to install 1.47.02 on Viz05 to see if it has the same issues as Viz06. I can’t try it for another 2 weeks though as I’m in the middle of big job right now.
I was using 1.47.02 on Viz 2005 and it was working great, no problems at all. Finally the subscription upgrade for Viz 2006 came in… I installed it and have been using it since. I’ve had the same problems with maps not rendering correctly with Viz 2006 and 1.47.02.
Although, don’t know why but the progressive path tracing and light cache seem to load the bitmaps fine, then when the irradiance map starts sometimes it loads the bitmaps on the first pass and then they show as the vray diffuse color (no diffuse bitmap) on the second pass. Sometimes this happens on the first pass. Either case after you render once or twice you end up with diffuse colors only.
I don’t have bitmap paging or anything on, and I’m using standard UVW mapping (none of the new Real World Scale mapping). The objects are using multi/sub object materials also.
has a solution to the viz2006 bugs been found yet? (other than using 1.46)
i’ve got viz2006 ready to install but still on hold because of this at the moment.
any info appreciated!
I have tried using 1.47.03 and VIZ 2006 on about 6 different scenes now and the same problems still occur. I would say stay with Viz2005 for now, hopefully there will be an answer soon. I think I’ll load 2005 back on so I can use 1.47.03.
Right Now, I’m using 1.46.15 with Viz05. I have 1.47.03 installed with Viz 2006, but I haven’t used it, for fear of the problems listed above. I may just move to viz06 and downgrade to 1.46.15.
