yes, i’ve just done that. I’ve gone through to the ‘Change Vray client license settings’ and changed it to the IP address of the server (the same IP that the workstations themselves are pointed at), but they still seem to fail.
If you look at the file c:\vraylog.txt on the slaves, what does it say?

Another dongle question,
I have two dongles, one with 1 license and the other with 18, is there any way to figure out which is which?
permanant marker with your choice of ink color i guess hehe

only thing I can think of is good old trial and error…slap one in and try starting vray on 2 machines. No matter what happens, you’ll know…

so i need to modify 30 machines so that in their c:\program files…
lives the client ini (or xml) file that describes where the server is?
i am still awaiting my 1.5 for max8 so that’s why the question

Is the version on the cd from siggraph the same version that will be in the
support section soon ? I ask because when I install from the disk it says
“vray for 3dsmax8 rc1”. Just want to be sure.

Any luck yet? I still can’t get strip renders or DR working. I’ve been in email contact with Vlado and have sent him one of my test scenes that will not work this end, but he seems to have no problems. The scene will, however, render locally just fine. Very strange, and I need to get this sorted ASAP as jobs are waiting… 
Yep, it looks to be working at least for DR, checking strip rendering now and I’ll get you an update. I did get problems too a little later on after I emailed you and it took a while to figure out exactly what goes wrong.

I noticed the dongle uses WIBU key which happens to be the same licencing software as archicad uses.
Just wondering i’f I will have a problem using both the archicad and vray dongle at the same time? (if there will be a conflict). Its only a minor inconvenience if i have to remove one dongle in order to use another but if it is a problem that would be handy to know:)

And get up and running and give it a good test. I guess not being able to pick up a dongle from siggraph means all install questions will be up here ready for when all us others get them.
this may be a question from a different book, but will i be able to install 1.5demo on top of the 1.46,
i want still work with a full version and play around with the new features of 1.5demo before getting my dongle
from what i understand downloading full 1.5RC from support will need the dongle.
You’ll only be able to run one or the other, if you really want both, best to copy your whole Max/viz folder and have two, one with 1.46 and the other with 1.50
