Whenever I have a texture map in a map slot and I try to change it to vray dirt map, it crashes max. Is this a known bug, or just me? Its a repeatable problem and happens every time.
Worked fine for me on a quick test; which 3ds Max/V-Ray version are you using? Does the material have its “Show map in viewport” option on or off?

Try to merge your scene to new empty one… Maybe it will help.
Okay, I tested in a new scene and it didn’t happen. It seems to only happen in one particular file. I am on Max 2008, Vray 1.5.11.
I have the same problem when I try to add a ColorCorrect map to a material. Most of the time this crashes Max for me as well. I just have to keep in mind to save my scene before I apply one.
We have this sometimes too, you cant add a map and include what was already there in it - you need to cut the map, put the colour correct/dirt in and then paste it back into the slot.
Has color correct been updated to 2008 64-bit?
