Vray RT GPU : Thermal behavior when using cuda units

I wonder what is the thermal GPU behavior when it is full load rendering under Vray RT gpu mode.
It is comparable than, let’s say an in-game situation (like crysis or whatever …) ?
Or it is less intensive ?
I plan to use a couple of nividia GTX 460 in a silent case with also an i7 980X @ 4Ghz baby so I try to estimate the requirements, it is going to be hot !

Thanks

hi, rendering in gpu mode is real full load for the gpu. i would say it´s more intensive than gaming. i tried to get 2 gtx 460 and the i7 950@3,6ghz in my machine. but the upper gpu became very hot after only five minutes of rendering. about 95 C. i think you need some water there, if you want to run them in one case…

Proper cooling is very important, especially if you have more than one card. Rendering on the GPU typically places higher load on the GPUs than a game.

Best regards,
Vlado

I dunno if thats for every1 but my GPU’s stay were cold… I got gtx 480 and 8800gts. And they both got less temp than in Games…

Mine are quite a bit hotter

Best regards,
Vlado

Well, I’m front of a dilemma , some say it is running hotter than game some say it is running cooler :stuck_out_tongue:

If I need To watercool, I’m becoming a nerd

It’s a complex , expensive , time consuming operation and if I can avoid it, I will be fine

Maybe if it’s running too hot I can lower my cpu overclock a little and reduce a bit the frequency on the GPUs

The Choice of Gforce GTX 460 was originally done for that, They run way cooler that the gtx 480

look at this interesting test :

GeForce GTX 460 SLI : http://www.behardware.com/articles/747-23/report-graphics-cards-and-thermal-characteristics.html

GeForce GTX 480 SLI : http://www.behardware.com/articles/747-26/report-graphics-cards-and-thermal-characteristics.html

the test have been performed with 3Dmark running.
a comment I found with Google on SETI forums report that when cuda running full load it may run hotter than game full load between 0 and +4 °C

Tell me what you think !
